Having fun together builds community

This coming Wednesday, grade 6 and grade 7 students will be heading off campus for some fun together as a class. The grade 6 are heading to a water park and the grade 7 will be going bowling and seeing a movie.

(The grade 8 aren’t being overlooked … they have their Moving On Ceremony on Wednesday, and then will have social time after that on campus.)

Understandably, parents occasionally ask questions about these days and their “learning value.” We believe firmly that important parts of the middle school child’s life are community connection and play. After a long year of classroom learning, assessments, presentations, and group work, we value this time at the end of the year for these friends to socialize together, bond one last time with their classmates, and enjoy one another’s company. We continue to look at the activities the students engage in and other creative ways to have fun with them.

As we enter the final week of school, with the half-day on Thursday, we look forward to the fun day ahead with the whole grade together.
