Welcome Wai is seeking volunteers
by Elinna Bahrin and Heidi Tilley
welcomewai@isb.ac.th
In preparation for the next school year, the Welcome Wai team is looking to put together a list of willing parents who can share school information with new families to help them acclimate. There are many roles available from attending the initial Welcome Back coffees and monthly coffees, to compiling the information packets, being a school specific contact (ES / MS / HS) or a welcoming country/community representative.
Some of the upcoming events are the Welcome Wai Coffee for new Middle School and High School parents during orientation on Saturday, August 13 and the Back to School Coffee on Monday, August 15 at 7:20 am.
The initial point of contact will be the Welcome Wai Coordinators along with PTA School (ES, MS& HS) and Country / Community Representatives.
Being part of the Welcome Wai team is a very simple volunteer role but key to providing a warm welcome to new parents. If this is something you would like to be involved with, we would love to hear from you. Email us at welcomewai@isb.ac.th

NEPAL IN NEED:
by Bill Schoonover
bills@isb.ac.th
NEPAL IN NEED: LAST CALL to contribute to the Nepal 2016 Earthquake Recovery fundraiser. If you’ve been meaning to make a donation, but just haven’t yet, now is the time! One year ago, on April 25, 2015, earthquakes devastated Nepal. However, through the generous contributions from the ISB and Nichada communities last year, we were able to raise funds to help the Moonlight School rebuild their broken school. Since they are the hosts of our annual GCW Nepal trip, we want to continue to support their recovery. Even though they now have a new school that directly serves children living in poverty in Kathmandu, they still need to raise the funds to install filters to provide safe drinking water for their students. PLEASE MAKE A DONATION AT THE ISB CASHIER’S OFFICE to the “Nepal Moonlight Account.” (Mr.Schoonover)

Summer Fitness Program for ISB Student-Athletes
by Bob Connor
bobc@isb.ac.th
James Butterfield
jamesb@isb.ac.th
Hello ISB Parents!
I hope you’ve had a great school year and are excited for the coming summer to kick back and spend some quality time with friends and family, I certainly am.
As you may already know, I am the athletic trainer here at ISB. Over this past school year, I have had the opportunity to train all of the School’s varsity athletes, most of which have shown enormous potential and have had incredible success at IASAS.
Prior to last year’s summer break, I designed individualised training programs for all of our varsity and junior varsity athletes. On our return to school in August, we actually noticed that the kids who followed this program came back in far better shape than the ones who didn’t. Unfortunately the kids who were new to try-outs seemed to be at a disadvantage as they had just come back from 8 weeks off without any specialised exercise guidance.
This year, I will again write individualised training programs for all of the athletes that I know and have worked with.
However, this leaves a large number of students without a training program because I may not have worked with them enough (if at all).
I also feel that some students might like to follow an exercise program even if they are not particularly ‘sporty’, just for the fun of living a healthy life.
So I racked my brains and I came up a fitness program that is suitable for all year groups – no matter where they are in the world … the 12 week Sub16 Summer Fitness Program
This program style has been adapted and modified countless times over the school year and I think I have come up with a style that the students both enjoy and benefit from.
As you will see when you click the link, the program is intended to develop both muscular strength as well as the fundamental movement patterns needed in daily life and sporting activities.
Now, there is a small cost to this program (less than $2.50 per week), a price that I have reduced especially for the parents of ISB. I’d really like the kids to try this out, so what I suggest is that you try the exercise program over the summer, and if you feel like it didn’t work…I will give you a full refund when we return in August.
In addition, if you would like a free 2 week program – just to get started – please contact me through the website and I will be happy to send that over for you.

Thanks for sharing an awesome school year with me at ISB, I can’t wait for the next one.
I look forward to seeing some happy and healthy kids when we come back.
Have a great summer.
James
P.S Just so you know, the program will return to the original price one week in to the summer break (June 16th), but the guarantee still stands.
