Timings for our School Day During the Next Academic Year

by Graeme SCOTT
graemes@isb.ac.th

Dear ISB Community Members,

As this semester draws to a close, we have some important information regarding the timings for our school day during the next academic year.

In February of this year, we sent you a survey regarding our plans to adjust the school day in order to accommodate some important additional benefits for our students.  These benefits are linked here as a reminder.  We had a total of 500 responses to this parent survey, with 86% of respondents supporting our proposal.

Please find below start and end times for Elementary, Middle and High schools from the beginning of the next school year (2016/17).

Screen Shot 2016-05-12 at 1.57.39 PM

Morning bus times will remain the same as this year.  However, we will monitor the traffic based on this new staggered start.  It may mean that buses can arrive slightly later due to less congestion in the approach to Nichada, but for the beginning of the school year, bus times in the mornings will remain as they are now.

Supervision for elementary students will be provided from 7:00am.  We do not encourage elementary students to arrive before 7:00am.

Buses will leave school at the following times:

First bus                     2:35 pm

Second bus               3:45 pm

Third bus                   5:10 pm

If you have any questions about these changes, please contact the relevant Principal or a member of the administration.
Kind regards,

Graeme Scott

We have modified the screening process so there is a basic medical screen for most students with a more extensive screen for students entering Grades 3, 6, 9 and 11 which includes a tuberculosis screen. Any student who has had a new student medical examination after January 2016 will not need a repeat examination. All students must fill in the Nurse Medication Consent form.

Forms are available for download from the ISB website. ISB Health Services Forms and Resources

Any student with Diabetes, Asthma or Anaphylaxis will also need an action plan filled out by the doctor. Forms are available for download from the ISB website. ISB Health Services Forms and Resources

ALL FORMS MUST BE SUBMITTED TO THE HEALTH CLINIC BY JUNE 30 2016 either in person or via email nurse@isb.ac.th

Bangkok Baseball All-Star Teams Complete their Season in Style in China!

by Bob Connor
bobc@isb.ac.th

The Bangkok All-Stars 12U and 14U teams returned victorious from China, where they competed in the 5th Annual Shanghai Slam International Tournament.

Under 12’s

The All-Stars 12U team continued its dominance this year, going undefeated in winning the Shanghai tourney, a fitting end to the most memorable 12U season ever, winning all 5 international tournaments they entered.   Led by an awesome display of power from Justin Blumenthal and Milan Pant, who each launched numerous homeruns over the fences, the All-Stars inaugural visit to Shanghai was a rousing success by any measure.  David Werner earned the ‘Finals MVP’, with several extra base hits on the day!

While the 12U All-Stars season has now ended, an unprecedented 5 members of the team – Justin Blumenthal, Milan Pant, Hiroki Saito, Cole Westerman and Matthew Minckler – made the Thailand National 13U team which participates in the Little League World Series Asia / Middle East Tournament this summer.  The winner earns the right to play in the final LLWS tourney (televised on ESPN) this August in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.  Wish them luck!

Under 14’s

Compared to the 12U team’s easy path to the title, the 14U team had some incredibly exciting and close games en route to its victory.  The highlight was 3 amazing games with the powerful Major League Baseball (MLB) China Academy team, with the All-Stars losing the first game 7-4, but winning the second game 11-9, to reach the championship game.  In yet another see-saw battle in the Finals, the All-Stars stunned the home crowd with an improbable and thrilling win in the bottom of the 7th (extra) inning, scoring 4 runs to emerge as champions!  Kaden Bernhard and Ryan Minckler were the formidable power punch for the All-Stars, showcasing their hitting and pitching prowess throughout the tourney.

Fresh off its victory at SEAYBST in March, the 14U All-Stars also concluded its most successful season ever, with 2 tournament wins and a Runner-Up.  Congrats to all the kids for doing Bangkok proud this year!
