Moving

Many students will be on the move at the end of this school year. Some will move to new schools and some to new divisions at their present school.

Moving from Elementary to Middle School or from Middle School to High School or moving to a new school brings challenges for students and parents; new buildings, new friends, new teachers. The possibility of harder work, more homework, more tests. There is a lot to consider and worry about.

Parents need to assist students to take care of the emotional challenges is these transitions. Confidence and the belief that you can succeed usually translate to doing well socially and academically.

Adolescence is a difficult time. Brains are developing in spurts and plateaus and this can affect academic performance. The peer group takes an important place, being popular may be more important than doing well in school.

Parents can help by staying connected. Stay informed, listen, and know what is going on in your child’s life.

Make sure your child is prepared for learning. Help them to get plenty of sleep, be consistent with rules and expectations. Model the importance of education. Nurture your adolescent. Watch for signs of stress, be affectionate in words and actions, and take time to listen.

We wish you and them all the best for their moves. Before the end of the school year, we will be meeting leaving students in groups to provide some support to process the move to a new school . You should have received an email in regard to this.

We are also working across divisions to assist the transition from Elementary to Middle and Middle to High.

The attached articles may help with suggestions as to how to assist your adolescent with these moves.

Please let us know if you have any concerns in regard to your child’s move.

ISB Safety Update

Dear ISB Community,

I am writing to update community members with respect to the review of the recent tragedy that took place in our 50m pool.

In the week of 18-22 April, a consultant from Clearpath EPM spent four days on campus interviewing administrators, coaches, lifeguards, aquatics and athletics staff, security guards, nurses, and others. CCTV footage was reviewed as well as a variety of policies, procedures, and handbooks. On Monday this week we received the Clearpath report.

This Tuesday we met with two Chevron safety experts to conduct a root cause analysis protocol. The report of this analysis reached us yesterday.

Our immediate next task is to analyze all findings, develop a plan of action, and expedite the action steps. As soon as we are able, we will communicate our findings and planned action steps with the ISB community.

Our aims are to make sure that a comprehensive investigation occurs and that our aquatics programs and pools meet the highest safety standards.

If any ISB community member has any questions or would like to offer suggestions, please contact any of us listed below.

Sincerely,

Dr. Andrew Davies

(Repeat Announcement) Leaving ISB at the End of the Semester?

Dear Parents,

If your child will be leaving ISB at the end of this semester please make sure you inform Khun Natt at natthapc@isb.ac.th or 02-963-5893.

The earlier we know about your child leaving ISB the more time it gives us to prepare important forms and transfer information for your child’s next school in a timely manner.

We know this can be a hard time for our students and we would like to make sure they are prepared for the transition they will be making so that it is less stressful.

If you would like your child to be part of a small group to give them the opportunity to understand their transition and build strategies to cope during their transition please click here and complete the form.

Sincerely,

Jackie Greenwood: jackieg@isb.ac.th

Carmel Kean: carmelk@isb.ac.th
