NaNoWriMo Celebration and Book Launch

When: 23rd May from 2:15 – 3:15pm
Where: ES MPR

Back in November, around 150 elementary students participated in the fun, frantic novel writing challenge of NaNoWriMo – National Novel Writing Month. By the end of the month, those students had collectively written more than 600,000 words – over 20,000 words per day! Now, six months on, many of those students are published authors. They have revised, edited and formatted their novels, designed their covers, written their blurbs and completed the publishing process. The Celebration is an opportunity to recognise the effort and achievements of these young writers, browse the collection of new books, and eat cake!

ISB Safety Update

 Dear ISB Community,

I am writing to update community members with respect to the review of the recent tragedy that took place in our 50 m. pool.

In the week of 18-22 April, a consultant from Clearpath EPM spent four days on campus interviewing administrators, coaches, lifeguards, aquatics and athletics staff, security guards, nurses, and others. CCTV footage was reviewed as well as a variety of policies, procedures, and handbooks. On Monday this week we received the Clearpath report.

This Tuesday we met with two Chevron safety experts to conduct a root cause analysis protocol. The report of this analysis reached us yesterday.

Our immediate next task is to analyse all findings, develop a plan of action, and expedite the action steps. As soon as we are able, we will communicate our findings and planned action steps with the ISB community.

Our aims are to make sure that a comprehensive investigation occurs and that our aquatics programs and pools meet the highest safety standards.

If any ISB community member has any questions or would like to offer suggestions, please contact any of us listed below.

Sincerely,

Dr. Andrew Davies

(Repeat) ISB Book Awards and Character Dress-Up Days

Each year ISB celebrates books that exemplify the way we learn and play at ISB. This year, we are showcasing books that highlight the “achieving our academic potential” part of our mission statement.  Grade levels are currently nominating books to win the grade-level award.  During the week of May 9th, we will decorate the HUB in “Oscars” style to celebrate the winning selections.  Students are encouraged to dress up as book characters who are trying to achieve their academic potential during the May 12th and 13th Out-of-Uniform Days. Think about characters who show determination and resilience in their learning!  A photographer will be on hand to document students in their costumes–it would be helpful for children to bring a copy of the book their character comes from, if you have one at home.

Stop by the HUB, browse the selections, and start talking with your children about books you’ve read with characters who are working hard to achieve their academic potential!

Past award winners here.

Any student who has had a new student medical examination after January 2016 will not need a repeat examination. All students must fill in the Nurse Medication Consent form.

Forms are available for download from the ISB website. ISB Health Services Forms and Resources

Any student with Diabetes, Asthma or Anaphylaxis will also need an action plan filled out by the doctor. Forms are available for download from the ISB website. ISB Health Services Forms and Resources
