ES Parent Education Workshop – April 7, 2016, 7:30-9:00 am (MPB 1)

From Consumer to Creators

Mobile devices permeate the world we live in.  They help us communicate, capture our lives and our learning, and they also entertain.  A new reality of parenting is emerging and we are grappling with big questions:

  • How comfortable am I with my children engaging with mobile devices?  What are our family agreements?
  • How can we ensure our children are using mobile devices in ways that empower creativity, problem solving and learning?

This interactive workshop will unpack how our children use devices and support ways we can take them from being passive consumers of content to active creators of content.

Bring your mobile device (iPad or iPhone) and be ready to enjoy a list of ideas and suggested apps just in time for the Songkran holiday.

For a complete list of apps to download in advance, check out this page: https://smarturl.it/isbcreators

Songkran Assembly

Our students will participate in our annual Songkran Assembly next Friday.  Due to space restrictions and safety regulations, this is a student only event and parents will not be admitted to the theater.  We will however, upload photos onto our Flickr pages.  Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

ES ‘Out of School Uniform’ Day—April 7 and 8, 2016

These two days are ‘Out of uniform’ days in the Elementary School.  On PE days, students need to wear their PE uniforms.  On their non PE day, students may choose to not wear their ISB uniform.

NaNoWriMo Update

Last November, many elementary students participated in National Novel Writing Month and worked hard all month to achieve their word count goals. Since then, some students have been busy revising, editing and preparing their novels for publication. We will have a NaNoWriMo Celebration and Book Launch in May to recognise these student authors, so in order to be prepared for this, the deadline for publishing NaNoWriMo novels is Songkran. All participating students should have a copy of the publishing instructions, but if you need a copy, please email Selena Gallagher at selenag@isb.ac.th

ES After School Activities

We are more than half-way through our After School Activity program!

All ASAs have already hosted their 4th-6th session.  Please note that Wednesday, April 6th is a school holiday – no ASA in session.

I am in the office daily from 1:30pm – 3:30pm if you have any questions or concerns.

(Repeat) If You Know you are Leaving ISB

Families who are leaving ISB at the end of the school year are asked to inform the school as soon as possible using the official Notice of Withdrawal Form.  This helps us prepare school records for your child and with planning for next year.  Completed forms can be dropped off at the ES Office.

(Repeat) ISB Summer School 2016 and Enrichment Camps

Will you be here in Bangkok in June or July?  Looking for something for your child(ren) to do?  Then check out ISB’s exciting and enriching Summer School Program!  Once again students in Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12 will be learning in an environment that is nurturing, academically challenging, and socially engaging.  ISB’s highly qualified summer school teachers are inspired professionals dedicated to creating the best possible learning experiences.  New ideas, new curriculum and new friends await each student.

Please click here to access all information on our website about the programs, dates, costs, and registration process.  Registration is now open with an Early Bird special that expires on Friday, April 29th.

Each year, a number of enrichment camps are offered to students.  Typically, these offer learning and exploration around a core learning area. This year, ISB is offering some old favorites as well as many new courses, including:

  • Two week Computer Science for All  (previously known as Coding & Robotics) and is open to students going into grades 4 – 9
  • A one week Panther Musical Theatre Camp open to students in grades 4 – 8.
  • Two week camps in Mandarin and Spanish open to students who will be in grades 1 – 5 in 2016/17, and three week camps inThai open to students who will be in grades 1 – 8 next year.
  • A two-week camp in drama improvisation (Devising Theatre) open to students who will be in grades 4 – 8.
  • One-to-four week camps, called Physical Fun, for students who will be in grades 2 – 9 in 2016/17.

(Repeat) Grade 5 Book Sale

The Grade 5 Used Book Sale is an annual event that takes place in April. All proceeds from this fundraiser go to the Mercy Center in Klong Toey, where the money is used to support the underprivileged in attending school.

If you have any used books or magazines that are in good condition, we would love to help you recycle these books while at the same time contributing to such a worthwhile cause. Books can be put in the drop boxes located outside of the ES Library and Main Office.

Please be aware of what you are donating. They can be adult, teen, or children’s books, fiction or non-fiction. However, it would be great if you could refrain from donating text-books, instruction manuals, or books that are out-of-date.
