Branding and Identity – SURVEY

by Chad Bates
chadb@isb.ac.th

Dear Community Members

It is difficult to believe that our Mission, Vision and Definition of Learning (our guiding documents) were drafted more than 8 years ago. These documents have served us well.
So much is changing in the world of education and here at ISB that we believe it is time to see whether our guiding documents need to be updated to reflect the ISB of the future. With this in mind we have started a number of Branding and Identity initiatives which will focus on who we are, who we aspire to be, what we value and how we tell our story.

A team of teachers and administrators across all divisions will be reviewing our Mission, Vision and other guiding documents in March. They will be assisted by a consultant, Chris Jansen. At the same time we are working with other consultants to update our visual and digital identities which will impact our web presence, printed materials, campus signage etc. We are also working on a Facilities Master Plan which will reflect the type of learning spaces we want for the future.

We will be sharing this work with the community as it develops to get feedback, but before we start, we would also like your input. Please take 5 minutes to complete this survey and tell us what you value about ISB and where you see opportunities to make ISB even better.

Thank you for taking the time – your input will be invaluable.

Parent Volunteers needed to judge Tournament of Minds

by Selena GALLAGHER
selenag@isb.ac.th

On Sunday March 6th, ISB will be hosting the Bangkok Tournament of Minds and we need some willing volunteers to get involved and help out on the day as judges. This is a fantastic enrichment opportunity for our students as well as many others in the region, but we couldn’t make it happen without the gift of time from many volunteers. No experience is necessary and all the details of the event are below. If you are interested in helping out, or if you have any questions, please contact Selena Gallagher at selenag@isb.ac.th.

When?

Sunday March 6th 2016

What?

A team creative problem-solving competition. Teams of up to 7 students from either elementary or secondary schools compete in one of three divisions – Language Literature, Social Sciences or Math Engineering. They work for six weeks to solve a long-term challenge and present their solution on Tournament Day in front of an audience and a panel of judges. On the day, teams also face an unseen Spontaneous Challenge.

Who?

Approximately 400 students from schools across Thailand and the S.E. Asian region.

Why?

The aim of TOM is to enhance the potential of our youth by developing diverse skills, enterprise, time management and the discipline to work collaboratively within a competitive environment. Tournament of Minds’ objectives are:  to provide the stimulation of real, open-ended challenges; to develop creative problem-solving approaches and techniques; to foster cooperative learning and team work; to promote knowledge and appreciation of self and others; to encourage experimentation and risk-taking; to expand and reward creative and divergent thinking; to stimulate a spirit of inquiry and love of learning; to develop enterprise; and to celebrate excellence.

What’s involved?

As a judge, you would be part of a panel of three to judge one of the long-term challenges or the spontaneous challenge, according to specific criteria. There will be a recommended training session in the week leading up to the Tournament to familiarise you with the challenge and the judging criteria, then you will be required to come along on 6th March for the Tournament itself. The schedule is still to be determined but likely commitment is around four to five hours, depending on assignment.

What’s in it for me?

Supporting a worthwhile enrichment opportunity that wouldn’t happen without people like you.

The joy of seeing students demonstrating their ingenuity, creativity and cooperation.

And free food!

Register your child for the 2016 North Bangkok Basketball Association (NBBL) season

by Kevin Sypolt
ksypolt@gmail.com
+66-84-388-7715

Registration is open to all boys and girls in grades KG-12.  The fee is THB 3,100 for all players.   Players do NOT need to be ISB students but all games and practices take place at ISB.

Team practices will begin the week starting March 7th.  League play will take place on Saturdays and begin on March 12th.  Games will continue every Saturday (except for Songkran break) and conclude the weekend of May 20th/21st with league championships.

We have attached the Top Flight weekly clinic schedule so you are aware when your child will practice.  Some coaches may also choose to hold a weekly team practice.

We will need many parents to help out as coaches in order for the league to function.  Parents only need to coach the teams at Saturday games since we have Top Flight running weekday practices.  But if we don’t have enough parent volunteers for a league we will not be able to offer basketball for that particular age group.  So we strongly encourage all parents to sign up to help coach.

Please see the attached assessment schedule for Sunday, March 6th.  Normally assessments would be held on a Saturday but there are too many conflicts with other activities for our students for Saturday, March 5th.

Payment for the NBBL season can be made at new Community Activity Office (CAO) which is located next to the bookstore at ISB.  The CAO is open from 7:00 to 11:00AM and 12:00 to 3:30PM Monday – Friday.

Please go to the NBBL website at https://www.isb.ac.th/basketball for the link to our registration system and for other important information.
If you have any questions, please contact the NBBL at info@nbbl.asia

Yoga for Freedom – March 12th

Mark the date! Saturday, March 12th, 7:30-8:45am at ISB, MPB Building

Join the Yoga for Freedom event with ISB families, the community and the Traffic Jam Club for the 7th year of the event. Help raise awareness and raise funds against human trafficking and for freedom.  Like last year, we are supporting the Organization ZOE Children’s Home in Chiangmai. ZOE rescue trafficking victims and safe them in family shelter for girls and boys. ZOE provides nutritional food, medical care, education and other essentials to minors in a family-unit setting, for long-term positive results for survivors of human trafficking.
Become part of this project. Join this fun family-oriented yoga event to help rescue children from human trafficking and give them a better future in life. Together let’ s raise awareness and energy, creating inner peace, love and freedom, to voice that violence of any kind has to stop.
On Saturday, March 12th, 7:30-8:45am, at MPB Building, ISB.
Mr. Andy Marshall and ISB’s  Traffic Jam Club are part of this project and have helped to make this happen.
T-Shirts will be on sale before the event and on 12th March. This money will also be donated.
Bring a water bottle and yoga mat (if you have one).
More information: www.zoechildren.org or e-mail: kerstin.bangkok@gmail.com, talola.bz@gmail.com or andym@isb.ac.th.
