On the mornings of Monday 1st and Tuesday 2nd February all Grade 10 students will be completing the International Schools Assessment (ISA) in Mathematical Literacy, Reading and Writing.  This assessment is conducted in grades 3, 5, 7 and 10 at ISB and the results are used to provide patterns in learning and assist in charting future direction. Students are expected to bring a pencil, black pen, eraser, ruler, sharpener and calculator to the test.  EAL students may also bring a translating dictionary for the Mathematics.  Students do not need to study for these assessments.

All

Thank you to all the parents who were able to attend the first ever Alumni Fair. It was a great chance for parents to come speak with former ISB students who are now at university

Grade 9

It was great to see a confidence in our returning 9th graders after the completion of their first high school semester. Many of them have established a good sense of expectations and a self management system to fit their daily & weekly schedules.

Quite a few 9th graders have been dropping in for some minor adjustments to their schedules. All students have until next Wednesday January 20th to request a potential change. One consideration for transferring students is the science course they are taking. We had discussed last semester that if a student is transferring and if they know the school they might attend, then they should look at its requirements for science. Many of the students who know they are transferring have elected to take Chemistry 2 this semester which will allow many schools to accept a full credit of Chemistry. This may well prevent a student taking a full year Chemistry course in their new school (where they do not offer half credit / half year science courses). If it is the case that your family might be transferring and in this situation, please let me know ASAP.

In regards to transferring schools, a lot of private schools in the U.S have deadlines during January and February. We have already received a several for those who might or are transferring. February 1st is a popular deadline for some schools. If you are looking at a school with this deadline then your family should contact Kuhn Fon our registrar in the counseling office immediately for setting up transfer of documents. In addition, all teachers and counselors should be informed of any required recommendations immediately, thus providing adequate time for a quality response.

Grade 10

It’s been a long first week back, but hopefully the second semester has started well for your sons and daughters.  There have been a few schedule changes to begin the semester, but most students are all set and moving forward with their classes.  The last day for any schedule changes is January 20th.  The first month of the second semester is really hectic, with IASAS competitions, 3rd season tryouts, and GCW all coming in successive weeks.  Organization is key for keeping up!  We’re looking forward to a great semester with your sons and daughters!

Grade 11

On Thursday, January 21 at 6:30pm in MPB 1, the HS Counselors will be hosting the annual Junior Parent night. The counselors will be presenting information and giving an overview regarding the university application process at ISB. Students will be receiving the same information during their Junior Seminar #3 during Flex earlier in the day.

Also, in preparation for the upcoming Junior Conferences that the counselors will be having with you and your son/daughter, you should have received a Parent Perspective form to complete. The forms were given to students in November during Junior Seminar #2. If you have completed the form, you can submit it on Thursday at the Junior Parent Night, if you like. If you have yet to receive the form, please ask your son/daughter.

Also, please check in with your son/daughter to see if they have completed the self-recommendation assignment in preparation for the Junior Conference. A Junior Conference will not be scheduled unless both the self-recommendation and parent perspective are completed. Thank you!

Grade 12

Welcome Back! It’s hard to believe IB exams are around the corner and graduation will be in 5 months. If a Senior applied to a US university, the counseling office will be sending mid year reports (first semester grades) by the end of the month. Students need to do nothing, as we’ll automatically send these.
