New Website and ParentPortal

by Chad Bates
chadb@isb.ac.th

We have just launched a new school website- please click here for a preview. This new website is cleaner with more streamlined content, and high quality images showing the best of ISB. The website is designed to be intuitive and easy for users to navigate, with responsive design adjusting depending on the device the browser is using.

In redeveloping ISB’s web presence, the current Parent Portal has been embedded directly in Powerschool. Therefore, starting 2nd semester, parents will need to login to Powerschool to view our ‘closed’ section of the website, this is for current parents only. In this area, along with grades and attendance, you will also be able to access school news and events, as well as updating your family contact and address information.

If you have forgotten your username or password, there is a link on the Powerschool page to retrieve it, alternatively you can contact:

The ULTIMATE Job and Maria Charity Fun Run – Jan. 15

by Caryn Macky
carynm@isb.ac.th

The ULTIMATE Job and Maria Charity Fun Run will be on Friday, January 15 at 4:30 p.m. on the track. (That is the first Friday back to school after the holiday.)

Job and Maria’s classmates will be graduating from ISB this year, so this will be our last opportunity to race in their memory. (Job and Maria were ISB 1st grade students when the 2004 tsunami hit.) We will run to raise money for scholarships for Thai students. Read a recent letter below from one of our sponsored children.

Parents, children of all ages, and sports teams are welcome to enjoy friendly competition. There will be races for all ages, from the 200 meter Hand-In-Hand race for anyone wanting to race together, to the 1 mile race for Middle and High School Students, and adults. Subway and Twist will be selling, and there will be treats for every participant. Contact Caryn Macky if you would like to help at the event.

Dear Benefactors,

My name is Banharn, a first year student at Public Health Sirinthorn College, Ubon Ratchatani province, programme public health – dental.

The education grant you have kindly given me is like a lit candle, with its light guiding an upcountry boy like me, letting me see the path of my learning opportunity. No matter how hard one studies, without the opportunity, it would be like a car with no petrol, never reaching the destination. Some people have to give up their education, and little by little, images of their desired destinations just fade away.

I have to consider myself very lucky indeed that you have kindly given me this opportunity. Not many people have it. The education grant is also a reminder to study hard for my own future and my family. To younger children, I will be a good example of the country’s young generation.

I am most grateful for your kindness in giving me the education grant. I promise I will pay attention to class, and use the grant money wisely for educational purposes.

Yours faithfully,

Barhnarn

IFF Parade 2016

by Gabriela and and Sanja
gabilux1969@gmail.com

Dear All,

ISB parents and community,

As you may know, the annual ‘International Family Fair’ is going to be held on the 27th of February 2016 at ISB.

Being the coordinators of the IFF country parade we would like to invite all the parents and children who wish to see their country represented to join the country parade.

There will be one child or adult who will carry the flag. The other community members may join the group and the flag bearer of course, wearing their beautiful costumes and national colours… The PTA will provide the flags and sashes with the country names.

If you do not already have a country rep at the school please get in touch with either of us directly (gabilux1969@gmail.com / sanja_stanley@hotmail.com) by sending us your name, country which will be represented and the phone number too.

We wish you all Happy Holidays and hope to see you next year at the IFF 2016.

Best wishes,

Gabriela and Sanja

Congratulations to the ISB Steel Panther teams for their recent success at the VEX Nothing But Net Challenge in Taipei, Taiwan. The Steel Panthers 1 team with Alessio, Sarida, Easwaar, Judge, and Thee was recognized for the VEX Think Award for the team with the most outstanding use of sensors and programming. They also finished 9th in the Robot Skills Challenge and 5th in the Programming Skills Challenge making it all the way to the quarterfinals of the tournament. The Steel Panthers 2 team with Nico, Anirudha, Thomas, Q, and Stephen scored consistently in each of their round robin matches and received the VEX Judges Award for their unique design and sportsmanship.
