Report Card Holds
Andy Vaughan & Phil Rogers
andyv@isb.ac.th, philr@isb.ac.th

Please note that parents will be unable to access report cards through Powerschool if a report card hold has been placed on a student account.  Report card holds occur if books are outstanding at the Library, fees are overdue or textbooks not returned.  If a report card hold has occurs in the next two weeks parents will be notified via an automated email from Powerschool.

To avoid report card holds please encourage your child(ren) to return all library books, and any textbooks used solely in semester 1.

To remove a report after semester finishes you will need to visit the HS Office from 21-24 December with the outstanding item.

Grade 9

This week our 9th graders had a presentation on student safeguarding. We spoke about why ISB has a focus on this area. We discussed when and who to report to when a student is feeling unsafe or uncomfortable with a person or situation. We then played out a few scenarios that lead to good conversations about personal safety. Below is two links to an electronic version of a brochure that was shared with students pertaining to student safety.

Grade 10
Now is the time that students should be reviewing the materials that teachers have given them or communicated to them that will be on the final.  By starting now, they can do a little bit each day, rather than try to “cram” in the last days leading up to the exams.  Cramming doesn’t help so much anyway.  See this link to a study from UCLA:

https://newsroom.ucla.edu/releases/cramming-for-a-test-don-t-do-it-237733

So it’s just like common sense suggests: you can retain more by taking smaller chunks at a time, than by trying to stuff it in all at once and hope that you can regurgitate it before you forget!

If any 10th graders want to change electives for the second semester, they should see their counselor as soon as possible.  Most elective classes are full, so there is limited movement possible, so hopefully students are happy with their second semester schedule.

Grade 11
For IB Diploma students, give some thought to your Extended Essay research question. For everyone, enjoy the long weekend! Take care of yourself!

Grade 12
Hopefully, Seniors enjoyed a break from the usual high school pace with their Passion Day activity.

We continue to remind students to schedule an appointment in advance to submit their applications sooner, rather than later. All applications to universities with December and January deadlines need to be submitted with the counselor by Thursday, December 17. We suggest that students applying to Canada submit their applications prior to the December break as well. Students need to have their standardized test scores (SAT, ACT, TOEFL, IELTS) sent as well before the application deadline.

Just as we shared a link last week to start thinking about transition to university, here is a recent Washington Post article about one parent’s communication with their college freshman.

Second season teams enjoyed a fun-filled Spirit Night last weekend, with the basketball teams playing through Saturday in the ISB Friendship Tournament. The festive night showcased all of our HS teams, providing an opportunity for fans young and old to watch rugby, touch, tennis and basketball. The swim team was away. The Booster Club once again provided fantastic support, gear, and gizmos to the crowds, and the atmosphere and crowds were unbeatable.

The varsity boys basketball team wrapped up the Friendship Tournament on Saturday in style, going undefeated for the weekend and beating TCIS in the final to claim the championship. The girls varsity basketball team enjoyed a very successful weekend, going 3-1 en route to a third place finish. Congratulations to all of our coaches and players!
