Enjoy the Break
by Dennis Harter
Faculty and students alike are welcoming this well-deserved break. With the holiday week ahead, we hope that everyone enjoys some rest and family time. Please note that this should be a time for your children to disconnect, read, spend time with friends and family, and rest and play. To help with this, ISB Middle School does not assign home learning during this vacation break.
Our Home Learning Policy states:
No home learning will be assigned at all during the October Break, Winter Holidays, Songkran Holidays, and any weekend during the year designated as an ISB Activity Free Weekend.
No assignments will be due or assessments scheduled on the first day back to school after the major holidays outlined above or ISB Activity Free Weekend.
Some students may be behind on assignments. This break may be a good time for them to get past assignments done, if they haven’t already. It’s not ideal, but if they have no new home learning being assigned, this could be a useful time to get caught up. If that is the case, please help them balance that time with rest and play as well.
We wish you a wonderful break and safe travels.
See you on Monday, October 26th!
International Day – Celebrating our Diversity
by Dennis Harter
On October 30th, ISB will be celebrating our incredible diversity with our International Dress Day. Students are encouraged to come to school in clothes honoring their home countries and/or nationalities. This is a wonderful day of national identity in the context of coming together for celebration. ES, MS, and HS students will look amazing in the clothes that celebrate all the places we’re from! Please encourage your child to participate. Students not in international dress, should be in school uniform.
Is there a cure for the Teenage Brain?
At Thursday’s MS PTA meeting this week, Lori Boll presented on what we know about the brains of our middle school students. Lori teaches grade 8 learning support in our middle school and is the Team Leader of our MS Student Services team. The presentation was eye-opening in sharing what the developmental needs of our students are, with great strategies for how we can support them at home and school. If you missed the presentation, check it out below!

Middle School Students being Recognized in the News
by Dennis Harter
We know our MS students are terrific, but every now and then some of our students are recognized out in the wider community for special accomplishments. This week we celebrate two of our students for putting themselves and their work out there for others to see and judge. Both have been recognized for their terrific accomplishment and we also want to share in celebrating the risk-taking, perseverance, and initiative they have demonstrated to be acknowledged in the first place.
Earlier this semester, Kim Yoon (Yunice) was recognized in the Korea Times, an English-language newspaper in Korea, with the Bronze prize in a Peace Essay contest run by the paper. The two submissions, ahead of Yunice’s, were written by adults including an English teacher! Click here to read the post.
Just recently, Jatearoon Boondicharem (Keene), was interviewed by the Thai news for writing his own App for mobile devices. The game – Asteroid Dodge can be seen in the picture of the news article. His game has been in the App Store since June!
