Samakee Gate Entrance to Nichada Thani

Here are a few updates to the new gate requirements at the Samakee gate entrance to Nichada Thani.

  • Drivers should have windows rolled down and clearly display their Express Pass to the Nichada Thani security guards.  The Nichada guards are unable to see through tinted glass and will require drivers to stop and open the window.
  • When going through the entrance, please let the vehicle in-front of you clear the gate completely and allow the gate to close before driving ahead to have your card checked for entrance through the gate.
  • A Nichada Thani Express Pass allows drivers, bikers and pedestrians to use the RFID express lane during the morning (6:30-7:30) and afternoon (1:30-2:30) rush hours.
  • During rush hours, ISB students on bikes and walking can walk-in through the RFID entrance.
  • Friday, October 16th is the last day you can apply for an Express Pass in the room next to Starbucks. After the 16th, applications will only be taken at the Nichada Thani Customer Relations office on the 2nd floor of the Nichada Plaza (near Villa).

New ISB Entrance point for bicyclists and walkers.

ISB plans to open a new entry point onto the campus for bicyclists and walkers following our October break.  The entry will be across the street from the parking lot for the Bank, Bumrungrad Clinic and Nichada Health Club.  The gate will be open from 6:30 – 8:00 a.m. and from 1:50-3:00 p.m..  ISB Security Guards will be at the crosswalk during these times to facilitate safe crossing of the road.

Nichada Thani Motor Bike Parking Lot

The existing motorbike parking lot near the new ISB entrance is designated for Nichada staff and Nichada Club only.  Nichada Thani has put up signs warning that other bikes will be clamped and fined. High school students currently using those spaces should find other locations to park their motorbikes.

URGENT Call for Host Families – 2015 IASAS MUN at ISB

by Anthony Giles
anthonyg@isb.ac.th

Dear ISB Parents and Students,

As you may or may not be aware, ISB will be hosting the 2015 IASAS Model United Nations November 11-15, 2015. Out of the 250 students from 15 schools around the region participating in the conference this year we will need hosts for approximately 150 of them! Think of it as an opportunity to give to students at other schools who may host students from ISB in the future. Or, think of it as an opportunity to give back if your family has already benefited from similar arrangements at other schools.

Please Note: All MUN members (both IASAS and non-IASAS), and IASAS CC delegates, past and present, are required to submit the housing form linked below. Students/families unable to fulfill this requirement must find another host and notify the Khun Kwang (louisas@isb.ac.th) in the Arts and Activities Office immediately with their contact information.

IASAS tournaments and conferences like MUN depend upon the good will and generosity of people like you to host visiting students from other schools. This reciprocal agreement shared throughout the region adds immense value to our programs, and provides a unique opportunity to develop new friendships, share in culture, and strengthen our connections across international communities. Honestly, it’s one of the things that makes IASAS events so special.

So, show off your new guest room. Share your favorite dessert. Get to know students from other schools. In short, be a part of this rich IASAS hosting tradition by registering here

Things to consider…

  • Host families are responsible for providing a safe environment for visiting students in compliance with the ISB Hosting Policy.
  • Student guests must be hosted in pairs, or more, with no exceptions.
  • Accommodation can be fairly basic and rooms shared.
  • At least one parent/guardian must be present at home for the duration of the convention. Evening supervision is required.
  • Visiting participants will arrive Wednesday, November 11, 2015.
  • All visiting teams will depart on or before Sunday, November 15, 2015.
  • Host families are expected to provide healthy breakfasts and dinners for visiting students.
  • All participants and host students must follow the IASAS Rules and Guidelines set forth by the league and host school.
  • Parents will receive a curfew call from visiting coaches at 9pm every evening to check in with their students.

BBSA – Baseball and softball registration is now open for the 2015-16 season

by Kevin Sypolt
ksypolt@gmail.com

Bangkok Baseball Softball Association (BBSA) has organized baseball/softball play for the past 55 years in Bangkok. There are leagues for boys and girls ages 5 yrs – 18 yrs.  Please note registration is open from now until November 6th.  We must register players now so we have time to hold player assessments, form teams and order player uniforms before play begins.  Current fees per player are THB 3,100.  Registration fees will increase to THB 3,600 on November 7th so be sure to register before November 1st.

You can make your payment at the Community Activity Office (CAO) or pay by Thai bank wire transfer.  Cash, credit cards and Thai baht checks are accepted for payment at the CAO office.  The CAO Office is open MondayFriday, 7:00AM to 11:00AM and 12:00PM to 3:00PM.

Player assessment will be held on Sunday November 8th and Tuesday, November 10th (depending upon the league your child is in) at the ISB fields.  All players are strongly encouraged to attend their assessment sessions to allow the coaches to create fair and balanced teams.   Parents will be contacted about the specific times for their player’s assessment session.

Practices will begin in mid November with Opening Day for baseball/softball on Saturday, Nov 21st.  All games are played on Friday evenings and Saturdays at ISB.  Games will continue every weekend until the league championships the weekend of February 26th/27th.  There will be no games during the winter break at ISB but we will continue play on Saturday, January 9th 2016.

All teams will practice once per week during the season as a weekly practice is important to skills development and to learn the fundamentals of teamwork, etc.  Most practices will take place at the ISB fields on weekday evenings (MondayThursday).  We have arranged a downtown Bangkok location on Thursdays for an optional weekly practice at NIST.  Parents will have to pay THB 500 for the season for this practice because NIST charges for field usage.  But all players should register to play even if they cannot commit to attending all weekly practice sessions.

On the registration form you will also have an opportunity to volunteer to be a coach, assistant coach or team parent.  Please consider helpng out with your child’s team in some way.  The kids really love having their parents helping out with their team and you will have a great time.  No previous baseball experience is necessary.

BBSA has purchased a limited number of fielding gloves and batting gloves for players who need them.  These will be sold on our assessment days.

Please go to https://inside.isb.ac.th/cao/2011/08/17/bbsa-baseballsoftball/  to register.  If you have any questions, please contact Kevin Sypolt at ksypolt@gmail.com
