High School Open House
Philip Bradley
philipb@isb.ac.th
A big thank you to all HS parents who attended Open House last night. We hope you left with some new understandings and a confidence that the year ahead offers some wonderful learning opportunities for your son/daughter/s.
The attendance was the highest for 6 years – your support, especially given the rain, is appreciated.
Sincerely,
Philip Bradley

Excusing Absences
Andy Vaughan
andyv@isb.ac.th
As a reminder, any absence for HS students should be excused by parents via a phone call to the HS Attendance secretary, Khun Gade 02 963 5883 (ext. 3305). It is appreciated if this phone call can be received before 8.30am so that we can alert teachers early.
It is important that we receive this parental contact, because without it, your child is marked as absent (X). Unexcused absences may result in additional on consequences.
You can see whether your child has been marked absent (X) on any day using PowerSchool. If we receive confirmation from parents that the absence is excused (Student Handbook, page 25-26), then we adjust the code to reflect that (AbE). Please help us to ensure we best understand reasons for your child missing school.
For extended absences, parents should email counsellors and also copy in Andy Vaughan (andyv@isb.ac.th) and Khun Gade (sasivimb@isb.ac.th) for approval.
Making up Work

andyv@isb.ac.th
Related to absences, please note that if a student misses class but comes to school for other parts of the school day, they are expected to turn in any assignment or take any assessment that was expected in the class(es) missed; this is an expectation.
It is the student’s responsibility to find the teacher and submit work or arrange time for an assessment. If the student does not do this, it is likely they will not receive credit for the work and will be assigned to Mandatory Study Hall which takes precedent over all other clubs or activities after school. Please help your child understand their responsibilities when he or she misses class.

Grade 9
This week in Freshman Seminar students had the opportunity to meet with Mr. Rogers, Dean of Academics and discuss academic programs and opportunities at ISB. Parts of his discussion focused on attributes needed for success in future studies and life pursuits. Time management strategies and helpful resources were also discussed this week. If you get the opportunity, please ask your child to review the Timetracker that was created during the Seminar.
Grade 10
Monday, September 14th is the first Sophomore Seminar. This year, the 10th graders are going to explore their strengths, assess what they are good at, and see what people who share their strengths and likes do for a living. It’s a good way to think about what a person might want to study in order to pursue a happy, productive career and life! On Monday we’ll do the Via Character Strengths Survey to find each student’s top character strengths. You can read more about it (and take the survey yourself if you’d like) at https://www.viacharacter.org/www/ Be sure and ask your son or daughter next week what their top five character strengths are!
Grade 11
Junior Seminar #1 took place on Thursday, September 10 during Flex. The focus of the seminar was on the importance of Grade 11, reviewing the role of the High School Counselor, reviewing individual student character strengths, how to prepare for the college/university search process (Testing, meeting with university representatives, etc.), and completing surveys on what they are looking for in a college/university. The surveys that the Juniors were give are due back to the Counseling Office by Wednesday, September 16.
Grade 12
Senior year is in full swing with activities, athletics, service, academics, and university visitors. Thank you for continuing to offer your Senior positive support and encouragement. Luckily, there is a long weekend right around the corner. The next 3 weeks will be packed with a large number of university visits and fairs. If a student plans on applying to a university that is visiting, they need to plan to attend.

TEAM CONNECT – SUCCESS!
The Team Connect program kicked off successfully last week, as members of our high school varsity squads linked up with our KG and 1st Grade classes during PE, Music, and Art classes. Both groups of students had a great time getting to know one another, sharing, laughing, and learning together.
The teams will continue visiting these classes throughout the season, building relationships and nurturing new connections across the divisions. Team Connect provides a unique platform for our students to practice mentoring and leadership, build school spirit, and reinforce that learning is fun at any age! One important aim is for the students to deliver mutual support at ISB’s showcase events – for the varsity teams the Spirit Night, Friendship Tournament, and IASAS, and for the ES students at their performances, exhibitions, or invitational events.
Mark your calendars for Friday, September 25. It’s Spirit Night at ISB, and everyone is invited to cheer on our JV and Varsity volleyball, soccer, and cross-country teams! Next week’s upcoming games are listed here. Go Panthers!
