Supporting Your Child’s Development of Numeracy with Cathy Fosnot

Mark your calendars for Monday, September 14th from 12:30 – 2:00!  Consultant Cathy Fosnot will offer a session, “What is Numeracy and how can we help our children develop it?  Cathy is Professor Emeritus of Childhood Education and the Founding Director of Mathematics in the City, a nationally recognized center for professional development at the City College of New York. She has authored and co-authored over 40 books and articles on mathematics education.  Cathy will be working with PK – 6th grade teachers in September.  Don’t miss this fantastic opportunity!

September 21 Peace Day

Peace Day events are held around the world on September 21 each year to honor those who have worked to end conflict and promote peace, and to celebrate a commitment to peace within ourselves, our families, our community, and our world.  Along with other planned activities, our school will come together as one day for a student Assembly, which promises to be very special.  On that day, all students and faculty are invited to wear white.

Picking up Students

We need your help in keeping our quad areas open for student learning, right up to the end of the day.  We have noticed a large increase in parents and helpers coming into the different quads, (especially downstairs in the Grade 1 quad) long before the 2.05 pick-up time.  This limits our ability to use these spaces for student learning.  We request that parents and helpers delay their arrival time to school a little and be conscious of using gathering spaces away from quad areas until just before the 2.05 end of school time. Please pass this message on to anyone who is collecting children from ISB. Thank-you in advance for your cooperation.

Lost your ISB ID Card?

If you are an ISB parent and have lost your ID card, please complete the form linked here.  Cost is BHT 200, the replacement ID Card can be collected from the Business Office.  Allow 24 hours for printing.

After School Supervision

Please ensure you know where your child is each afternoon and that maids and nannies understand ISB policy around supervision after school.  For safety’s sake, ES students MAY NOT be on campus after school unless supervised by an adult in charge, appointed by the family. Thank you for your cooperation.

ISB is a Nut-free Campus

As stated on p. 31 of the Parent Student Handbook, ISB is a nut-free campus. We have many students at our school with serious nut allergies. In order to keep them safe, we do not allow any kind of nuts on our campus at any time. This includes the snacks and lunches that you might send to school with your child. Thank you for your cooperation and support in keeping our children safe.

(Repeat) Elementary School International Day Volunteers Needed

ES International Day is set for Friday, 30 October, 2015.  This is a fun filled day for the elementary school when parents turn the classrooms into various countries represented here at ISB.  Students learn the history, heritage, and culture, of these countries through playing games, creating beautiful artwork, tasting new foods, and learning new languages.  This special day of learning only happens because of parent volunteers.  If you would like to be a part of the ES International Day team, please contact your country rep or ES PTA reps: Mindy Lorbermindylorber@gmail.com and Verena Petzinna verena19@yahoo.com
