Middle School eNews – August 21, 2015

Save the date

Our Middle School has started the year on a wonderfully positive note. We see smiles on the faces of students and teachers throughout the classrooms and halls. Already we see students engaged in their learning, connecting with old and new friends, and demonstrating kindness and care.

We are excited to have you experience a little bit of that positivity at our Open House evening, which is just a few weeks away, on September 3rd, at 6:30 PM. Please save the date and time and plan to be at ISB.

At Open House, you will meet the new administrative team and counselors, hear about our learning program – including the new home learning policy – and meet each of your child’s middle school teachers. This is not a time for individual conferences, but rather a time to learn about our program and get to know the teachers who will spend the year working with your child and his/her learning.

We are proud of who we are and what we do for learners and learning. Equally, we continue to believe that what makes us a good school is our continual efforts to get better. We look forward to “opening up” our school to you on the evening of September 3rd. Hope to see you there!

MS Clubs and Activities Booklet for 2015-2016

Dear Parents,

We are in the process of completing our MS Clubs and Activities Booklet for 2015-2016 and aim to have it ready in time for our MS Open House, or earlier.

Until then, I direct you to our booklet from last year (click on the following link to access it). Inside it, please note that even when the booklet came out, there were many clubs and activities where we didn’t know start dates etc, same will be this year. Last year’s will give you an idea of the different clubs and activities that were offered. At the same time, with many new staff members joining our MS faculty this year, some of these may not be offered this year while other new ones will.

Our MS Clubs and Activities are all sponsored by our teachers at no or minimal cost to students. Our program is not a set program as in the ES and CAO with an exact schedule and fees for students to participate. The best place to keep informed of all our clubs and activities and when they will start etc is in our daily MS student bulletin where they are announced once we have updated information – in fact, some have already started!

Best Regards,

Maurilio Baron-Toaldo

  • Basketball: We want to strongly encourage more girls to attend tryouts this year.
  • Cross Country: Coaches are encouraging everyone to come out and run, even if your are not fit or fast. The goal is to improve your fitness with their “Learn to Run” program designed to help everyone.
  • Rugby and Touch: With the new BISAC set up we now have 6 teams in these sports, thus weekly games for our teams!

The Eco Trip “Working with Wildlife” is full

In fact, it is now over flowing. Sign ups are closed. If you would like to go on a trip stay tuned for the next trip which is in November – details for which will come out in September.

Cafeteria News…Did You Know…?

… Approximately 98% of what we serve in the Cafeterias across campus are home baked, hand cut, hand grate, home cooked, and hand prepared by us every morning. This includes all the items at The Grind, the hamburger buns for BBQ Friday, the baguette bread for the sandwiches, the tortillas for the ES Canteen, the homemade Chicken & Vegetable Stock for all the Soups, the Pineapple Juice for our Punch, our slow brewed Iced Tea, and the Home Roasted meats for our sandwich bar. We believe that Basic is Best. Food in its basic form carries the most amount of nutrients for our bodies and is optimally digested, hence allowing us the maximum benefits from the foods we eat. Epicure Catering welcomes a fresh delivery of produce and meats daily, striving to use recipes with only the most natural ingredients. We look forward to another year of providing well balanced, nutritious, tasty meals to all of our very eager and hungry customers, mainly your kids. Enjoy.

(The HS/MS Cafeteria welcomes parents for breakfast and lunch!)
