ES Open House – Aug. 27 @ 6:30pm in the Chevron Theater
We warmly invite you to our ES Open House this coming Thursday, August 27 at 6:30pm in the Chevron Theater. This is a wonderful night to meet your child’s teachers, understand classroom procedures and expectations and the learning your child will experience at ISB this year. You will be able to meet homeroom, and specialist teachers (PE, Music, Art, World Languages, Learning Support and EAL)
This evening is not, however, a time for sharing specific information about individual students. As always, if possible, it will be important for both parents to attend Open House, especially if you have more than one child attending the Elementary School. Families with children in multiple grade levels might need to divide and attend different classes at the same time. Please keep in mind that this evening is for parents only and there will be no child-care provided.
Open House is a vital step in fostering a strong home-school partnership, and we look forward to welcoming you to this special event.
Evacuation Drills at ISB
Student safety is our primary concern at ISB. Like all schools and large organisations, ISB has emergency procedure plans in place. Each year, we conduct four emergency situation practices, including evacuations and lockdowns. At the start of the year, students are told about these drills and teachers spend time explaining our procedures. Our first drill will take place early next week.
ES After School Activities
This Semester’s After School Activity program will begin on Monday, September 21st. The After School Activity booklet available online for viewing or downloading go to https://inside.isb.ac.th/parentportal/esasaand click “Activities booklet” link.
Registration will be open online on Friday, August 28th.

Registration will soon be open for ES After School Activities. One of those activities is Tournament of Minds, and although it runs on a different schedule to the rest of the activities, you still complete the sign-up and registration process in the same way.

All parents have been automatically subscribed to classroom teachers’ blogs this year. If you are not receiving notifications of posts by email, please check your spam folder and also ensure that your email contacts are up to date in Powerschool. Ed Tech. can help you with updating if you are not sure.
Cafeteria News…Did You Know…?
Approximately 98% of what we serve in the Cafeterias across campus are home baked, hand cut, hand grated, home cooked, and hand prepared by us every morning. This includes all the items at The Grind, the hamburger buns for BBQ Friday, the baguette bread for the sandwiches, the tortillas for the ES Canteen, the homemade Chicken & Vegetable Stock for all the Soups, the Pineapple Juice for our Punch, our slow brewed Iced Tea, and the Home Roasted meats for our sandwich bar. We believe that Basic is Best. Food in its basic form carries the most amount of nutrients for our bodies and is optimally digested, hence allowing us the maximum benefits from the foods we eat. Epicure Catering welcomes a fresh delivery of produce and meats daily, striving to use recipes with only the most natural ingredients. We look forward to another year of providing well balanced, nutritious, tasty meals to all of our very eager and hungry customers, mainly your kids. Enjoy.

(Repeat) New Student Groups for new students in Grades 1-5
New Student Groups will start the week of August 24th. Run by our Elementary School Counselors, the groups give students the opportunity to share their feelings about the move to Thailand and ISB and the chance to make friends with other new students. All new students are automatically included. In lower elementary groups are held at a time convenient for teachers. In upper elementary groups are held at lunchtime. The groups meet once a week for four sessions. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Kate Kersey (counselor for K-Gr. 2) at katek@isb.ac.thor Doug Williamson (counselor for Gr. 3-5) at douglasw@isb.ac.th.
(Repeat) Registration for ES Panther Chorus and ES Junior Panther Choir
The ES music department is delighted to open choir registration for the 2015-2016 school year. Two year-long ensembles are offered to ES students and meet Wednesdays from 2:15-3:15. The Panther Chorus (Grade 4 and 5) will start September 3. The Junior Panther Choir (Grade 2 and 3) will start September 23.
Both choirs will perform several times throughout the year including school assemblies and evening concerts. To register your child for either group please fill out this form here. Click here to see a calendar for both ensembles for the first half of the year.
(Repeat) Grade 4 and Grade 5, Send Your Recorder In!
Students in Grade 4 and 5 will start working with recorder in the next couple of music classes. Some students already have their recorder at school, but if your child brought their recorder home over the Summer, they need to bring it back to school. If you Grade 4 or 5 child is new to ISB and does not have a recorder, they are available for purchase at the ISB bookstore for 138 baht.
(Repeat) ISB School Sports are about to begin! What is offered? Where are the tryouts?
Welcome back everyone, as you know one of the most exciting things about ISB is all the activities that are offered. My name is Kerry Dyke kerryd@isb.ac.th and I am the Athletic Director for U11, U13 and U15. Most ES students in grade 4 and 5 qualify to play U11 sports (depending on their age), and in some cases can even play U13 sports if a sport is not offered at U11.
U11 sports is all about participation! We don’t make cuts, we try to balance playing time, and the goal is to have active kids playing sport and having fun!
The sports offered in Season 1 are:
U11 | U13 | U15 | JV (U19) | Varsity (U19) |
Basketball
Cross Country |
Basketball
Cross Country Tennis |
Basketball
Cross Country Rugby (boys) Touch Rugby (girls) |
Cross Country
Soccer Volleyball |
Cross Country
Soccer Volleyball |
Our website is under major reconstruction and isn’t ready to be shared yet. However, here are the important links you need to know for now:
– full tryout schedule (when, where, sports for the whole year, etc)
– Age Policy (how do I know which age group I qualify for? Can I tryout for more than one age group?)
– Code of Conduct (important for parents and athletes)
Please keep in mind these sports are not the same as sports and activities organized through After School Activities and Community Activities Office. This information is for the ISB School teams who will compete against other Bangkok schools in BISAC.
Good luck to all students during your tryouts.
