General Reminder: The last day for students to make changes to their schedule is Tuesday, August 25.
Grade 12
Thank you for attending the Senior Parent Night last night. We hope you found it helpful and were able to get some focus for the following months as students apply to university. A meeting was held after school for seniors who met with their counselor and received similar information as parents. A timeline for the Class of 2016 can be access here.
We are excited to launch a new website for university advising that will be linked on the ISB website, the Program of Studies, and within Naviance. The site also includes a blog where counselors will share information and trending articles the community may find useful. Access the site here.
Senior University Lab will begin Monday, August 31. This is a great resource for kids to work on their applications, essays, and get feedback from counselors. Labs are held during flex every Monday in room 203.
Applying to the UK? Students should attend a UCAS registration meeting and presentation on August 31 during flex.
Applying to the US? Students should attend a Common App “party” held on Tuesday, September 1 (early dismissal day) from1:15 to 3:00 in the MPB.
We greatly appreciate your support to ensure your Senior participates in the wealth of opportunities provided to assist them in their university application process.
Grade 11
We know many of your students are just beginning the IB Diploma program. If they have any questions about their course choices please ask them to stop by and speak with their counselor.
Grade 10
We are just completing the first full week of school, and hopefully all the students are satisfied with their schedules and are organized for the busy year ahead. If students are struggling with issues in or out of school, it is best to see a counselor now rather than let things get worse before they are addressed. Counselors will have met with their 10th grade students by early next week, so that the students will be familiar with who their counselor will be for the next three years. We’re all looking forward to a productive and satisfying year working with your student!
Grade 9
This week was our first full week of courses and as a whole I would say that our 9th graders are off to a good start. I have encountered many asking good questions and seeking help when needed. It was great to witness many within the class taking care of each other, especially new students.
In Freshman Seminar this week we had two sessions. The first session was a focus on important information from our school handbook (What is HAL – Habits and Attitudes of Learning and why is it important, How does the the grading system work in H.S?, etc.). In addition, we explored values and attributes of individuals they admire. This is all interwoven at a later date with exploration of personal strengths and the defining of success.
