A request from HS industrial design students
Philip Bradley
philpb@isb.ac.th

Dear parents,
In Industrial Design class we are currently working on a project in which we turn wood chips into biochar which is a environmentally friendly source of energy. To carry out our operations, we need a rice pressure cooker, so we would like to know if any parents have a pressure cooker you’re not using and willing to donate.

If any parents wants to donate or want further information please contact Lokesh or Kristine at:

14573@students.isb.ac.th
15381@students.isb.ac.th

Thanks so much for your time and help
Note, we are using the pressure cooker for a scientific experiment, this experiment will render the cooker unusable for making food. Therefore, once it is donated, it will not be given back to the owner!

High School Counseling Newsletter

Grade 12 – Thursday, 12th grade parents had the opportunity to address and learn more about the upcoming transition both students and parents will be experiencing in the next few months. A copy of the presentation has been sent to parents. Don’t forget, your Seniors will have a Senior Transition Day program on Monday, May 25 from 7:20-2:00 where they will turn in their laptops, get final information about transcripts necessary for universities, and start focusing on the transition through a number of different workshops.

Grade 11On Monday we held an essay workshop for students.  It was a productive time. If you are thinking about taking the June SAT the deadline to register is May 8. Begin preparing for end of semester exams.  Reviewing a little every day will alleviate stress at the finish line.  You’re almost there!

Grade 10 – 10th grade parents were able to hear from Clay Hensley at the College Board this week regarding the redesigned SAT beginning in May 2016 (PSAT in October 2015). For more information on the story behind this change, read this NY Times Magazine article. An important message was clear. The best preparation for the SAT is the work students are already doing at ISB through thinking critically and problem solving. Gone are the days of rote memorization of things like vocabulary words. A copy of this presentation information will be sent soon to parents.

Grade 9 – This week students received their individual exam schedule through powerschool on the “Quick Look up Screen”. This will hopefully not incite too much anxiety. Before exams take place there will be several other projects, papers, and assignments that will take place – focusing on doing well in these will be important. As we get closer to exams, teachers will give preparation sessions during class and sometimes after school. So the message is for now: a little review is okay but do not start to stress about end of year exams – just continue to work hard in school and find time for yourself beyond your studies.

Health Letter for Returning Students
Sonja Roback
Sonjar@isb.ac.th

The purpose of this communication is to inform you of updates to ISB’s Health

Requirements which will require your action and to provide you with the health form for returning students in the 201516 school year.

As we look ahead to the next school year, we want to give families ample time to plan for health appointments and allow for the Health Clinic staff to perform any necessary follow up. In addition, we want to highlight some minor changes to the health form requirements for this year.

For the 20152016 school year, all returning students are required to have a complete physical examination that includes:

1) Overall health assessment
2) Hearing and vision screening
3) Cardiac evaluation with ECG – Required only for students entering Gr 6, 9, and 11

Annual physicals are an excellent opportunity to provide benchmarks regarding your child’s overall health and to create a picture of progress and development over time.

This information enables early detection of emerging issues, a review of immunization status, and the opportunity to inform the school of any changes related to recent illness or injury. For the upcoming school year, a change has been made to limit the ECG requirement for only those students entering Grades 6, 9 and 11. This allows for an age appropriate assessment of health while increasing efficiency in the administration of student health information. These changes were made in consultation with local pediatric health professionals and health resources in the ISB community.

Action required:
All returning students are required to complete and submit the Comprehensive Physical
Examination Report Form by June 30, 2015 . Please follow up with your local
healthcare provider, a healthcare provider in your home country or take advantage of
established ISB Student Packages at either World Medical Center or Bumrungrad
International Hospital. When making the appointment, please indicate that the appointment is for the ISB Comprehensive Physical for an existing student. In addition,
please bring the Comprehensive Physical Exam form and the student ID (if available) in order to receive the established package pricing. Price details are listed below.
