High School Counseling Newsletter
Kevin Davy
kevind@isb.ac.th

ISB has positive relationships with many universities around the world. For those trusting relationships to continue, ISB counselors work diligently to advise students using ethical standards and practices.  In the past several years, universities have become increasingly aware of fraudulent applications being submitted by applicants from Thailand.  ISB took quick and decisive actions to protect our students by changing the application process for ISB applicants. The feedback we are receiving from universities has been very supportive.  Recently, Fortune Magazine published an article detailing the concerns by many universities regarding this issue.  Please see the full article at the below link:

Grade 10 – Class registration for the 2015-16 school year takes place online from Wednesday, March 18th, to Tuesday, March 23rd.  All students should register, even those who don’t plan on being here next year.  All sophomores were required to see their counselor this past week to discuss their plans for the coming two years in order to make a schedule that fits their interests, abilities and goals.  Do you know what your son or daughter will be taking next year?

Grade 11 – Grade 11 students, registration for next year’s courses take place March 18-23 through PowerSchool. If you have questions about what classes to take or about your credits, please see your counselor.

Grade 12 – It’s mid March and graduation is less than three months away. Seniors are experiencing many lasts: last Cultural Convention, last IASAS, etc. Add to that the upcoming IB exams and the next two weeks when many university application decisions are made (April 1 for US universities). It all equals a lot of stress, anxiety, withdrawal, excitement, and uncertainty. Try to offer your Senior a way to find some balance and perspective as they prepare for their next adventure. Whatever it is they are feeling (and you), they are not alone!

We are approaching a three day weekend and Songkran is right around the corner. How can they use that time enjoy family, explore favorite activities and prepare for exams. For some of you, this is your first child to graduate and for others it is your last (or maybe even your only). Kevin Sypolt

Hard to believe, but our High School seniors will graduate in less than 3 months.  Graduation is on Wednesday, June 10th, so mark your calendars.  In preparation, the Graduation Committee will be taking orders for formal graduation announcements and invitations.  These can be sent to your friends and relatives. Announcement cards are a tradition in North America.  We encourage all the parents to come and see the cards. The cards are mailed to family and friends to let them know that the International School of Bangkok will have a graduation ceremony on June 10, 2015 and that your child participating in the commencement exercises.

The final orders for the announcements will be taken Friday, March 20th in the HS cafeteria from 10:00AM – 11:30AM.  The price per graduation announcement is THB 60.  You can order as few or as many as you want.

No orders will be accepted after March 20th.

The printer will have the graduation announcements back to parents by April 7th (before Songkran) so there will be time to mail them to overseas guests.  Don’t wait.  Order yours right away so you are not disappointed.  You can also go to this google document for the order form – https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1ImCcU4BRuQOR3B2PCIF_j39ZMx7XenbLopUhVF5dNT8/viewform
