High School Parent-Conferences

Peter Roback
peterro@isb.ac.th
Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held from 7:30 – 2:30 pm (Lunch -11:15- 12:00 pm) on March 13 in Rajendra Hall.  This will be an important time to discuss the semester two progress of your child(ren) with teachers and counselors.

Also during this day we strongly encourage students and their parents to carefully consider course selection for next year.  During parent teacher conferences there is the opportunity to talk to teachers, counselors and administrators about course selections.  This is relevant to all students but particularly to students moving from Grade 10 to 11 as they have to make a greater number of decisions.

With this in mind it is strongly recommend that both parents and students attend the conferences together and come with two outcomes, current progress and future course choices.

2015/16 Course Selections Grades 9 – 11

Philip Rogers
philr@isb.ac.th
ALL grade 8 – 11 students (even if they may be leaving) will be asked to make course selections for next school year via Powerschool from 18th to 23rd March.
Counselors and teachers will be providing information in this regard to students over the next two weeks and we would encourage parents to read through the HS Program of Studies to assist their children to make informed decisions.  If you have any questions please contact your child’s counselor, teachers or a member of the HS Admin team.

High School Counseling Newsletter
Jennifer Melton
jenniferm@isb.ac.th
We hope you all enjoyed that great mid-week holiday Wednesday. As the semester is well underway, more assessments are now taking place. If your son or daughter is feeling stressed or overwhelmed, have them stop by and see their counselor, we’re here to help. As a reminder, Parent Conferences are in one week. With course selection for next school year taking place March 18-23, conferences will be a great opportunity to have a word with teachers about the options for the next grade level and consult with counselors for further questions.

12th Grade:  Seniors are now in the final stretch for new material in their courses; by late March most of their classes will be reviewing for exams. Encourage your son/daughter keep their eye on the ball; don’t let them succumb to the dreaded “senioritis”!  They have made it this far, they should finish strong and make their parents proud.

By the way, some seniors still have to send a “Certification of Finances” document to schools in the U.S. to which they have applied.  This is necessary for international students to verify that their families have the financial resources to pay for their university education in order to secure a student visa.  If your son/daughter receives information that they are missing this required document, have them go directly to their counselor for instructions on how to get the form completed and sent.

11th Grade:  Counselors have been meeting with 11th graders and their parents for Junior Conferences. These have been such helpful and productive dialogues about the future! If your son/daughter hasn’t made their appointment with Khun Wah to see his/her counselor with you in attendance, then you are already behind in the university selection process and need to get moving! March 20 is the deadline.

10th Grade:  Time flies, and we’ve been working with the students to put together a plan for their final two years at ISB.  Meetings with the sophomores will continue next Monday through Thursday to try to get close to finalizing schedules that will satisfy graduation requirements and personal goals.  At parent conferences on Friday, the counselors will be available to answer questions from parents and students.  We’ll see you there!

9th Grade: Hopefully all 9th graders came back from GCW with many positive stories to share. It is such a great way for learning to take place in such a different classroom. Students have the chance to learn from a new experience, a new challenge, a different culture, a unique situation. We have already heard of so many stories of students overcoming barriers they never thought possible; using inner strength they maybe did not think they had. We have also heard great stories of students supporting each other through the week with humor, fun, encouragement and empathy. Really powerful stuff!!! Really transferable learning!!! If you haven’t already done so, please ask your son / daughter to share the reflection they had to write for GCW and expand upon.

NBBL Scorekeeping/Timekeeping opportunity for students in Grades 7-12

Kevin Sypolt
ksypolt@gmail.com

As we have in past years, NBBL (North Bangkok Basketball League) will hire Grade 7-12 students to be scorekeepers and timekeepers for NBBL games.

The games will take place Saturdays at the ISB gyms.  This is a great opportunity for Grade 7-12 students to earn their own money and learn the responsibility of a work situation.  The students will earn between THB 200 and 300 per game..  In order for the students to be eligible to work at these games, all students (including those who have been scorekeepers/timekeepers in the past) must register at https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1iZhNVtjc9bs0T2Fh0BIMBPmNdZnAYEsNYozUWw9crSM/viewform

There is a MANDATORY training session for any student who did NOT work as a scorekeeper/timekeeper last season.  This training will take place either on Sunday, March 8th at 5:00PM or on Monday, March 10th at 7:00PM.  Both sessions will take place in the MPB 3 room and will last about an hour.  Students are only required to attend one of the sessions.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.  As always, please consult our NBBL website at https://www.nbbl.asia/ for information.   This is where we will post calendar information, schedules, team listings, etc.
