ES Report Cards

Trimester Two Report Cards will be ready on Friday February 27.  Starting this trimester, report cards will be available to parents to view or download through Powerschool. Report cards will no longer be printed and sent home with your child.  ISB’s commitment to becoming more “green” with report cards will now extend to all three divisions in the school. Next week, parents will be sent via email, log-on details for Powerschool.  You will need this to access your child’s report card on February 27 – please keep the Powerschool information in a safe place! If you do not receive an email by Wednesday, or you experience difficulty, please contact our Ed Tech department at vinitp@isb.ac.th

Another change for this reporting period is that as a norm, specialist comments will be written for trimesters 1 and 3 only (for Art, Music, PE, WL).  Individual comments for students can be written for trimester 2 by the specialist if needed.  This decision was made after collecting feedback around the quality of specialist comments, and the challenge to make them individualized for large numbers of students.  We will try the system of twice a year, to see if the quality of individualized comments improves.

As always, if you have concerns or questions about your child’s progress, you may arrange an appointment with a teacher at any time throughout the year.

Conceptual Math with Erma Anderson – Part 2

ISB is proud to welcome backErma Anderson! Ms. Anderson is a former high school physics and mathematics teacher of 30 years.  Currently, she is a science and mathematics consultant working with the Office of Overseas Schools and the US State Department as well as many International Schools.  She is an expert in training teachers to understand math at a conceptual level and she will be working with teachers in the ES during the week of February 16th – 19th. Don’t miss her Parent Training on Tuesday, February 17th from 7:30 – 8:30 in the ES MPR.  Be prepared for a hands-on workshop, where we will increase our understanding of how numeracy progresses and what we can do to support children’s conceptual understanding of numbers and operations.  Do not miss this fantastic opportunity!

ES BISAC Sports news

February 1, 2015 was the last day of season 2 BISAC sports.  Our U11 soccer teams finished off their season and all did well.  The U11 boys A team finished 2nd in the tournament.  U11 boys B team finished 3rd in a different tournament.  The U11 boys C team finished 4th in theirs and the U11 girls team finished 5th.What’s What’s next for U11 in Season 3? For a variety of reasons we will not offer U11 T-ball this year.  Therefore, ES students who are interested in softball should tryout for the U13 team.  Those tryouts take place on Monday and Wednesday,  February 16 & 18 from 2:10 – 3:40.  As well, they may consider trying out for U13 volleyball which will be at the same time as softball.  If you make one of those teams, practices are also Monday and Wednesday from 2:10 – 3:40. If an ES student attends a tryout they must provide their own transportation to return home.  There will be no bus for ES students at this time.  Once teams are selected and we see bus needs we can later arrange the buses.  As always, buses are only for students who are already Montri customers. For more information please contact Kerry Dyke kerryd@isb.ac.th

Cafeteria News…Did You Know…?

The weekly ES Menu is posted on the Parent Portal each Friday for the week following.  It includes all the dietary/ allergy information one may need, such as Vegetarian (V), Gluten Free (GF), Dairy Free (DF), Egg Free (EF) and Fish Ingredient (F).  As we are a nut free campus, this information will not appear on the menu.  It can be found under Elementary- Cafeteria – Menu.  We strongly encourage all ES parents, especially those of younger kids, to print off the menu each week, post it in a very visible spot, and have a quick review of that particular day before coming to school.  This way the kids can already have in mind what kinds of items they are going to chose that day before approaching the buffet at the Cafeteria.  The more the kids are informed about their choices in advance, the better the choices they will make at lunch, helping them become responsible, knowledgeable and healthy consumers as they grow.  Enjoy.
