The final week for Advance Placement exam sign-ups is next week!  Exams will take place this coming May.  If students are currently taking  AP Statistics or AP Calculus courses at ISB these sign ups will occur during their classes.  Other students should see their counselor if they are contemplating taking an AP exam and then see Mr Rogers’ secretary, Khun Arintra to obtain further information.  Registration for AP exams must be handed into the Dean of Academics office no later than Friday 6th February (before GCW).

Counseling News
Kevin Callahan
kevinc@isb.ac.th
IASAS is the big thing this week and weekend; we’re hoping all the teams are successful and give it their best effort.  Go Panthers!  It’s tough mixing activities and academics but our students manage, and we’re proud of them.

Seniors: Don’t forget that if you have applications still to send, that you need to turn in the Transcript request form 3 weeks before the deadline.  If you have questions about the application, don’t hesitate in coming in to discuss them, but when you come in to send the application with your counselor, it should be ready to go, editing already done.  See your counselor in advance for feedback on your essays and questions about the application process.

Juniors:  Over 100 parents attended the Junior Parents Night on Thursday and received information about the next steps in the university search and application process.  There were many excellent questions and it’s always great to see such well-informed parents who put the highest priority on their sons’ and daughters’ educations.  For those who missed the evening due to IASAS or traffic (it was horrible Thursday night!), the counselors are putting together a screencast of the presentation and will make it available to all 11th grade parents by late next week.  We’ll send a note reminding you of this on Naviance.

Sophomores: Sophomores have now finished their reflections on their strengths and things that they like doing, have reflected on them, and are now ready for a conversation with you and then the counselors about what courses they will take for the coming years.  Talk to them about what they’ve done and where they’re headed!  10th graders also received their ACT-Plan results along with the actual test.  Just going over the questions that they missed is the most efficient way that they can prepare for future standardized tests.

Freshmen: At this point students are settled into their schedules and starting to establish routine. Students and families are reminded to take advantage of the flex time in high school. This is between 2:10 and 3:10 Monday through Thurday. It is a great opportunity for students to check in with their teachers, work in study groups with their peers, access the library for resources. Nearly all activities and sports do not start till 3:15 as to keep this time open for these types of purposes.

It is also encouraged for Freshmen to try and complete homework assignments / activities the night that they are set. This allows students to check in with the teacher the next day if they still have have questions on the assignment. It also gives students time to possibly review and polish an assignment the next day if need be.

All of the following university visits to campus are in Room 3-203 during lunch. Parents and students are welcome to visit with representatives.

Monday, February 2 – University of Leicester

Tuesday, February 3 – Aston University and University of Liverpool

Wednesday, February 4 – University of Manchester

Friday, February 6 – Blue Mountains International Hotel Management School and LIM College (Laboratory Institute of Merchandising).
