The Safety Corner

The Safety Corner

The campus is a buzz this week with IASAS tournaments and final planning for nearly 50 student trips away from ISB – these range from grade level trips to the High  School GCW trips.  They also includes Middle School AMIS Music Festivals and the upcoming MS Mathcounts Tournament.  Here are a couple quick safety reminders to help all groups with prevention and safety.

1)  If a child’s medial history has changed at all since the beginning of the school year (injuries, illness, new medications, etc.), please make sure to inform our health center immediately.  Trip leaders need to be aware of any new conditions or history that would be important to know when traveling away from home.

2) Hydrate and protect yourself – whether on campus or on a trip, make sure all children have a water bottle (with fresh clean water). Proper hydration is one of the most important prevention steps anyone can do to minimize the effects of the heat and dehydration.  In addition, apply sunscreen and wear light, protective clothing to combat sunburn.

3)  If traveling out of country, make sure all passports are up to date (no less than six months left before expiration) and all visa requirements have been taken care of.  Out of date passports and failure to secure proper visas may prevent a student from participating in trip and also creates a safety concern for the entire group when this is discovered at a customs gate.

4)  On Campus – if you did not read last week’s safety corner, please remember that pedestrian crossing areas at the new sports complex, ES bicycle racks and near the main gate are for pedestrians only (walkers and bicyclists).  These areas are NO Parking and NO Drop off zones.  Please do not endanger others by pulling vehicles into bicycle/pedestrian lanes anywhere on the roadside.

Have a great week!

Facilitating your child’s success: a workshop for parents
The Student Support Team at ISB invites you to join us for a cross-divisional parent workshop. We will explore the role of parents in achieving ISB’s Vision of preparing our students for success in the world community.  This workshop is based upon longitudinal research, conducted by the Frostig Center in California, into life success for students with disabilities.  However, the findings of this research offer practical applications for ALL students.  The parent workshop will address:

-What is success?

-What does success look like at ISB

Participants will be invited to contribute to a video about success at ISB, although this is entirely optional. The workshop and optional video interview will take place on:

Monday February 23rd, 8:00-9:30AM Elementary School ES MPR
