Students have completed any changes to their schedules and are now set for the rest of the semester. The first two weeks have flown by and we’re now going full speed ahead.
9th graders: As the semester starts out 9th graders are encouraged to establish a routine that involves managing their time well. A goal of maintaining a healthy balance between their studies, family, social life, and other activities will be promoted throughout. As always, Mr. Davy is available to support students if they are having a tough time in finding this healthy balance. In addition to Mr. Davy, the counseling department has five other Grade 10-12 counselors who are always there to help if Mr. Davy is not available.
10th graders: The great majority of 10th graders have completed their third Sophomore Seminar. We combined the results from the Via Character Assessment and the Career Interest Profiler to see what kind of careers might be the most fulfilling for each student. It should be good information to help the 10th graders in March to choose their classes for next year !
11th graders: Junior Seminar 3 will take place next Thursday, Jan. 29 during Flex, and the Junior Parent Night will take place at 6:30, Jan. 29 in the MPB as well.
Please remind your Junior student to complete the Junior Packet and to complete the Parent Perspectives worksheet contained in the Junior Packet.
12th graders: Welcome back to the final semester of high school! It will be an exciting time with celebrations and many “lasts”. As we approach IB exams in May and graduation in June, please support your son or daughter in continuing a strong effort and academic record in their final semester. Any university admission offer (including to US universities), is conditional upon their final Senior year grades and/or IB grades.
While the majority of students may have submitted university applications, there are Seniors who will apply to universities with deadlines in the next few months (Korea, Japan, Thailand, Australia/NZ, etc.). Those students should stay in close communication with their counselor so we can best assist them in being prepared to apply. Requests to submit documents to universities should be submitted to the counseling center three weeks before the application deadline.
If your son or daughter has received an application decision, encourage him/her to notify their counselor as soon as possible. Also on the horizon this semester, counselors will lead Seniors through a number of transition workshops as they prepare for life after high school.
