ES e-News for November 7, 2014

Thursday’s ES Parent Training

Thanks to all who came to our parent training entitled, Nurturing Mathematical Talent and Passion at home. We had a good turnout and participants hopefully nurtured their own love of math by playing games and engaging in rich problems.  But we didn’t just play games, we also explored characteristics of highly able learners, bringing in current research on mindset and gender issues related to math.  To view the presentation that was shared, please visit Selena orKim’sblog.

ES Report Card

We send home report cards each year (November, February and June). This year the first report card is going home on Friday, November 14, 2014. Please look over the report with your child, discussing strength, areas for growth and goals.  It is our aim that report cards are a spring-board for positive family conversations about learning.

International Day 2014 – Friday November 21

International Day is a ‘hands-on’ learning day to celebrate ISB’s rich intercultural diversity. Many of our ES classrooms are ‘transformed’ by parents into country themed rooms so that our students can celebrate different cultures, food, dress, language, music, geography, throughout the day.

A few details for parents:

  • Students wear a costume representative of their home country to school on International Day
  • Students are invited to wear country t-shirts instead of their uniform or P.E. uniform in the week leading up to International Day.  A country t-shirt represents a country or place-visited with their family.
  • International Day begins with an Assembly. This year, parents are welcome to join the Assembly, as we are gathering in Rajendra Hall. As a result, the parade of classes will happen inside the Hall.  Parents will need to be seated by 7.30am SHARP so that the Assembly can begin on time.

Sing Along On International Day: A Note from ES Music

Students have enjoyed singing the three International Day community songs, “Beautiful Creatures,” “Nothing More,” and “A Peaceful Day,” in music this week. As parents are included as audience in the Assembly this year we invite you also to participate in the community music making by singing along. To familiarize yourself with the songs, you can find lyrics and music videos posted on the music blog here.

ES PTA Meeting – Change of plan

Since efforts and energy towards International Day are priorities, the ES PTA meeting scheduled for November 13 (9:30 am) will be changed to an International Day planning session.  The meeting will now take place in the MPR, facilitated by our PTA representatives form the Elementary School at 9:30 for any questions you may have, and resource needed.

ES Musical – Aladdin Kids

AladdinThe first chorus rehearsal for the ES Musical will be held tomorrow, 8th November, 2pm – 4pm.  The rehearsal will take place in MPB1.  The second chorus rehearsal will be on Saturday 29th November, 9am – 12pm in MPB1.

It would be helpful if students could bring a water bottle to the rehearsal.  Parents should make arrangements for both dropping off and collecting their children.  The director of the ES Musical is Costantina Pederzolli and she can be contacted atcostantp@isb.ac.th

‘Lunch with Michelle’  – An invitation to taste and talk ISB food!

Did you know that ISB food service is run by Epicure Catering, a company that provides food services to several international schools in the Bangkok area? Are you interested in finding out more? Ever wanted to sample what our children eat every day? Well, here is your chance to learn all about the food service and the ES cafeteria at ISB. Come join Michelle Ihrig, Epicure Manager at ISB, for “Lunch with Michelle” on Wednesday, November 19 at 10:30 am. There will be a short tour of the ES cafeteria followed by lunch and casual discussion. Space is limited and fills up quickly so please RSVP to Patti Madiganatmadigankolstad@yahoo.com by Friday, November 14.

ES After School Activities

We are more than half way through our After School Activity program!

Babies Home Clothing Drive

We are the club officers of the High School club called Phayathai Babies Home, that visits a local orphanage every Friday. The children at Phayathai Orphanage either do not have parents/guardians or their parents are unable to take care of them. In order to further help our dearly loved orphanage, we are running our first Babies Home Clothing Drive. We would much appreciate new or lightly used children’s clothing that would fit children from the ages of 5 and under. Any baby clothing is accepted, but it is important to keep in mind Thailand’s weather in mind and know that summer clothing will be more useful to them than thick winter clothes. Outside of the ES office, inside the Mother’s Room, and in the Community Service Office there will be a box that is labeled “Babies Home Donations”. The drive will be running from November 7th- December 5th.

Thank you very much for your help!

(Repeat) Leaving ISB at the End of the First Semester?

Parents of students who are not returning to ISB after semester 1 need to notify the ES Office, K. Tina (tinaratr@isb.ac.th) as soon as possible and  fill out the Notice of Withdrawal from ISB Form to enable us to process school records for their next school.  Thank you for your attention to this important matter.
