GCW Payments
Peter Roback
peterro@isb.ac.t
All students received GCW Parent Permission/Health Forms and Payment Slips this week. At this point, requests for changes are not allowed. The Parent Permission/Health Form must be signed by a parent/guardian and returned to initial GCW meetings on Tuesday, 11 November at 1:10pm.
GCW Payments are due by 11 November as well. Payments can be made at any Ayudhya Bank branch (there is one in the parking lot near Villa in Nichada Thani). For your convenience the payment slip we sent home with your child this week is completed and should be used when paying.
Grade 11 Institutional TOEFL
Phil Rogers
philr@isb.ac.th
Junior whose first language is not English will be practicing a TOFEL assessment next Tuesday afternoon (early release) from 1:15pm to around 3:30pm. The TOFEL exam is required by many global universities when applying by citizens of non-English speaking countries. Many students take this exam at the end of Junior year or beginning of Senior year and the assessment next Tuesday is an important formative assessment.

High School Counseling Newsletter
Jennifer Melton
jenniferm@isb.ac.th
Dear Parents,
Welcome back from the October holiday! We hope students are well rested and ready for the push leading up to December break. As always, if you are concerned about your son’s or daughter’s performance or experiences here at ISB or outside of school, do not hesitate to contact his or her counselor. We’re here to help.
Grade 12 – Seniors applying to universities with deadlines of November through January (Hong Kong, UK, Canada, US, etc.) are busy finalizing and submitting their applications with counselors. November 24 is the final date to submit transcript requests (formal notification to ISB of where a Senior is applying). We want to remind students and parents that application essays should be the sole work of the student, written in their own voice. Admissions representatives are keen at detecting if essays are not the work of a 17/18 year-old student and compare written work to grades and standardized test scores.
Next week there will a variety of universities from Japan, Europe, Canada, and Australia visiting ISB. Please read further for more information.
Grade 11 – All Juniors took the PSAT before the October break. Results should arrive after the December break in time for students to review and prepare for the January SAT. The SAT is designed for students to take second semester of Junior year and first semester of Senior year. The January SAT is an ideal time for Juniors to take their first SAT, not sooner. Juniors can see their counselor for information on how to register at ISB.
If a student is not enrolled in the full IB Diploma, they are advised to sit the SAT. Many universities across the world (UK, Canada, Australia, etc.) may ask for these results in place of the IB Diploma.
The institutional TOEFL will be given next Tuesday on the early release day for non-native English speaking Juniors.
Next week there will a variety of universities from Japan, Europe, Canada, and Australia visiting ISB. Please read further for more information.
Grade 10 – Believe it or not, course selection for 11th grade is in just a few months! We hope you are able to attend the Grade 10 IB Information Evening on Monday, November 3rd at 6:30pm in the MPB. Both students and parents are invited to attend.
Sophomores took the ACT-Plan on October 15th; the results will hopefully arrive before the end of the semester and we will share the information with the students when we get them. There is also an interest inventory that the students completed; it will be useful in comparing it with the career-oriented seminars that we will do this year.
The next Sophomore Seminar is Wed-Thur, November 12-13 (depending on the student’s free periods). We will explore further the idea of finding out what students like to do and are good at, and how that might help them to explore possible courses of study, and later, careers.
Grade 9 – Every Freshman will be meeting with Mr. Davy for an individual conference during the month of October and beginning of November. This will be a check-in to see how life in the high school is moving along. This week in Freshman Seminar students were creating their own Personal Learning Plan (PLP). This incorporates different activities and information where students have evaluated themselves as a learner. This PLP will be a working document / website that will be added to / adjusted during the course of Freshman Seminar, and hopefully beyond.

Athletics Update

Season One is coming to a close for all our Under 17 teams this weekend as they compete in the BISAC U17 Soccer tournaments hosted at Bangkok Patana School by Thai Chinese International School and and the Girls and Boys U17 Volleyball tournaments, which are hosted at International Community School and NIST International school respectively. We wish our Under 17 teams all the best as they wrap up their season at BISAC.
This week has been a mixed week between try outs for season two and the finishing of practices for season one Under 17 teams. We have to begin our tryouts for season two so early as we have exchanges on the horizon on 22 November, with ISB hosting the Tennis Exchange, SAS hosting Swimming and Touch, ISM hosting Basketball and JIS hosting the Rugby Exchange, it is a tight timeline to get teams ready for these exchanges! If you have a child that makes a varsity team, they will be receiving an exchange invitation early next week, which needs to be turned in by Friday next week.
We had fantastic numbers out this week for try outs with roughly 270 students coming out, which is over a third of the HS! It is terrific to see so many students participating in sports and we are looking at running an extra girls Touch team due to the numbers at try outs.
We will be celebrating season one next week at the season one sports banquet, which is hosted in the Rajendra Gymnasium next Thursday afternoon from 5.30pm. As a reminder all athletes have their tickets covered by the Booster club and parents can purchase tickets from the Athletics Office for 400 baht until Monday. After Monday the ticket price increases to 500 baht.
Finally, we achieved some excellent results in our recent IASAS tournament. At ISKL our girls soccer teams finished fourth and our boys lost in overtime in the finals in an incredibly close game. At ISM our girls volleyball finished fourth and the boys picked up the bronze medal. In Cross Country, our girls ran their way to bronze and the boys dominated the field to win the first ISB Gold medal for Boys Cross Country in eleven years. Well done to all the athletes so far this season for an outstanding effort!
Once again, all the best to our U17 teams for this weekend’s BISAC tournaments, Go Panthers!
