GCW registration for Grade 9
Peter Roback
peterro@isb.ac.th
Registration for Global Citizenship Week will continue on Monday, 6 October at 7:00pm for students in Grade 9. Students will provide their top 5 preferences in order and will be assigned courses based on time of submission. Once courses become full, students will be assigned their next preference. This makes the order in which students select courses very important. We ask that parents and students have conversations ahead of time about courses, especially what parents are willing to support financially.
Final course rosters will be posted at school on Thursday, 16 October. Parent permission forms and payment slips will then be distributed and due on Tuesday, 11 November at initial GCW course meetings.

Dear Parents,
The end of month two of the school year is fast approaching and students are busy with schoolwork and activities. If your son or daughter finds that they are struggling academically in a subject, please encourage him or her to make good use of their Flex time after school each day to meet with teachers and seek clarification and support. Students are also encouraged to check-in with their counselor. We’re all here to help!
Grade 12: On October 15 while 10th and 11th graders are in ACT Plan/PSAT testing, Seniors will take part in a Senior Retreat. They’ll start the morning by joining in various Healthy, Active, Balanced, Lives activities (meditation, social dance, music, yoga, self defense, games, etc.) and followed by an opportunity to work on applications with their counselor or attend a special session for students applying to Japan, Korea, Thailand, or other Asian universities.
Any Senior applying to a university with an October 15 application deadline should have turned in their transcript request last week. If a student is applying to a university with a November 1 deadline, they should turn in the transcript request in the next week to the counseling office. This is to help give the office time to gather various recommendations and other application documents and send them prior to the university deadline.
Seniors should have also seen their counselor in the last week to review their self-predictions for IB compared to actual predictions.
Grade 11 – If students have not turned in their pink College Match homework from the recent Junior Seminar, they are encouraged to do so as soon as possible. The next Junior Seminar is in November.
11th graders pre-registered for the PSAT on September 30. The actual PSAT will be given October 15. 11th graders participating in IASAS, have already been informed that they are taking a later flight after taking the PSAT.
We’ve had many universities from around the world visit ISB already this school year. As 11th graders begin thinking about their post-high school plans, they are strongly encouraged to make good use of these visits to learn more about the opportunities available to them.
Grade 10 – Reminder to 10th graders: Pre-registration for the ACT Plan is October 6. The actual ACT Plan will be given October 15. 10th graders traveling for IASAS, will take the ACT Plan on October 7 after school (early dismissal day) at 1:10. The location will be announced soon.
The first Sophomore Seminar will be on Wednesday and Thursday, October 8/9. Students will explore their personal strengths and how they relate to success in school and life. Sophomores should plan to attend during their FREE period or during Flex on Thursday afternoon.
Grade 9 – Every Freshmen will be meeting with Mr. Davy for an individual conference during the month of October and beginning of November. This will be a check-in to see how life in the high school is moving along. There will not be Freshman Seminar again now until October 29/30.

A big THANK YOU to our High School parents who attended the information packed HS PTA meeting. We had just over 100 people in attendance. Please be sure to mark your calendars for our next meeting, The Principal’s Forum on Thursday, October 9th at 10am in MPB2. At this meeting, Mr. Bradley and his administrative team will address issues that you, our parents, have raised. It is always an informative discussion. You won’t want to miss it!
