HS Open House

Philip Bradley
philipb@isb.ac.th

Many thanks to the parents who supported HS Open House last night. Your involvement in your child’s education makes a positive difference and it is very encouraging to us all to see so many of you, the attendance was our best for over six years. Parents I spoke with appreciated the opportunity to meet their child’s teachers and gain some understanding  regarding the courses they are taking. We look forward to your continued involvement and support.

Sincerely
Philip Bradley

Temporary Guardianship
Peter Roback
peterro@isb.ac.th
To ensure the safety and well-being of students, parents are reminded to inform school if extended work or personal travel results in children remaining at home alone.  Parents must provide the school with the name and contact information of a trusted adult guardian who will assume temporary care and supervision during the period of time away.

SAT and ACT Preparation
Philip Rogers
philr@isb.ac.th

A number of Seniors and Juniors will be taking the ACT or SAT assessments over the coming months.  Therefore it is appropriate to provide a timely reminder from our Counseling team about the best ways to prepare for these tests.  Attached document provides a range of options that clearly focus on the need to retain a conscious focus on a students current learning in school and an opportunity to practice some of the ACT or SAT style questions.

Counseling News:

Grade 12: This past week, the High School Counselors held a workshop for seniors who will be applying to universities via the CommonApp (Common Application).

During University Lab on Monday, there will be a workshop for students focusing on how to write a university application essay.

Seniors continue to attend college visits.

Grade 11: Juniors will be attending Junior Seminar this Wednesday, Sept. 10 and Thursday, Sept. 11. The topic of the seminar will be on college match. Students will complete questionnaires that will provide them with further insight into themselves that will in turn assist them with a college/university that might be a good match.

Grade 10: By now, all the 10th graders should be in classes that fit their abilities and motivation.  The start of the year has gone smoothly for our 10th graders.  If your 10th grade son or daughter is having any difficulties, have him/her visit his/her counselor as soon as possible.  We’re here to help.

The first sophomore seminar will be October 8th and 9th.  We will explore individual student strengths through a pair of questionnaires that help students identify their personal strengths.  We’re looking forward to getting to know our sophomores better at that time!

Grade 9: This past week our Freshman had their first taste of our Student Counsel Elections and our Club Fair. There was a very good vibe from our class of 2018 as they took the initiative to sign up for HS clubs of interest. Mr. Bradley and Mr. Roback also gave valuable presentations on being a good HS citizen and achieving HS Success. Grade 9 students  also completed a Learning Style Inventory that will be part of their own Personal Learning Plan that they will be creating in Freshman Seminar.
