HS Open House – Thursday the 4th of September
Philip Bradley
philipb@isb.ac.th
We cordially invite you to our annual Open House on Thursday the 4th of September. Parents will have the opportunity to attend classes according to their son’s or daughter’s schedule. In this way we hope that you will gain much useful information about the courses your son/s and daughter/s are taking and understand more about the learning environment we foster at ISB. This in turn will allow you more opportunities to engage in learning focused conversations with your child/children.
Please plan on arriving shortly after 6:00 p.m. As you arrive make your way to the front of Chevron Theater. In front of the Theater you will collect an individualized schedule and for each of your children – this will guide you throughout the evening with details on periods, teachers and locations.
There will be a technology session starting at 6:15 p.m. in the Chevron Theater – this will cover a lot of helpful information for parents so that we are better able to support our children.
At 6:30 p.m. there will be an introductory assembly held in the Chevron Theater.
From 7:00 – 9:10 p.m. parents will follow the eight period HS schedule.
Excusing Absences
Peter Roback
peterro@isb.ac.th
If there are times when your child is going to miss class or a day of school, please email our attendance secretary, Khun Gade at sasivimb@isb.ac.th or call her at 02 963 5883. It is important that we receive this parental contact, because without it, your child is marked absent unexcused (AbU). Unexcused absences may result in additional on consequences.
You can see whether your child has been marked absent (X) on any day using PowerSchool. If we receive confirmation from parents that the absence is excused (Student Handbook, page 25-26), then we adjust the code to reflect that (AbE). Please help us to ensure we best understand reasons for your child missing school.
Making up Work
Peter Roback
peterro@isb.ac.th
Related to absences, please note that if a student misses class but comes to school for other parts of the school day, they are expected to turn in any assignment or take any assessment that was expected in the class(es) missed. This is an expectation. It is the student’s responsibility to find the teacher and submit work or arrange time for an assessment. If the student does not do this, it is likely they will not receive credit for the work and will be assigned to Mandatory Study Hall which takes precedent over all other clubs or activities after school. Please help your child understand their responsibilities when he or she misses class.
Safety
Peter Roback
peterro@isb.ac.th
If your child drives a motorcycle or golf cart, please remind and encourage them to drive in a safe and responsible manner and review with them the rules of the road. To help protect our youngest students, it is especially important to drive carefully and slowly near the Elementary School crosswalk and around both adjacent corners. Students that are operating these vehicles without any license or training are endangering children and others. Also be reminded that all students and adults should be wearing a proper bicycle helmet that is strapped to enter campus.

We’re very excited about hosting Dance Exchange here at ISB Sep 12-14. We are still looking for families to house a minimum of 2 visiting dancers each. Accommodations need not be fancy. It is ok to place a futon on the floor, if that’s all your house can accommodate. We can also provide transportation if you are not able to pick your visitors up. I’ve attached the housing form for your convenience. Please return the signed form to the Activities Office as soon as you

Cafeteria News…Did You Know…?
Michelle Mueller Ihrig
cafeteria@isb.ac.th
…That about 98% of what we serve in the Cafeteria is home baked, hand cut, hand grate, home cooked, and hand prepared by us every morning? This includes all the items at The Grind, the hamburger buns for BBQ Friday, the baguette bread for the sandwiches, the tortillas for the ES Canteen, the Pineapple Juice for our punch, our slow brewed iced tea, and the home roasted and hand cut meats at the sandwich bar. We believe that Basic is Best. Food in its basic form carries the most amount of nutrients for our bodies and is optimally digested, hence allowing us the maximum benefits from the foods we eat. Epicure Catering welcomes a fresh delivery of produce and meats daily, striving to use recipes with only the most natural ingredients. We look forward to another year of providing well balanced, nutritious, tasty meals to all of our very eager and hungry diners. Parents also welcome. Enjoy.
