Welcome and Welcome Back
Philip Bradley
philipb@isb.ac.th

As the summer vacation draws to an end and the new school year approaches I know there are mixed feelings amongst our students. From a number of brief encounters and conversations it is evident that students have enjoyed a rich and varied summer of travel, relaxation, adventure, learning, sport and family time. And most said they were looking forward to school, meeting new students and catching up with old friends, some even hinted that they were a bit bored and ready to work! But no one likes getting up so early! So to our new and returning families and students a very warm welcome or welcome back. A warm welcome too, to the 16 new teachers and administrators who are joining high school this year.

A lot of hard work and preparation has been going on over the vacation and along with my colleagues I am looking forward to school opening on Wednesday August 13th. It will be the normal start time of 7:20 (arrive at least 10 minutes early) with students meeting in small communication groups (comm groups), followed by a whole school assembly. Comm group locations will be posted in school and this is where important notices, schedules and laptops will be given out. The remainder of the day will involve a series of orientation sessions, an eight period rotation (short periods) and some technology specific meetings.
Reminder to students new to ISB – all grades
There is a new student and parent orientation on Monday 11th of August.

Please arrive in time to register 8:45-9:00 ready for our first session in the Chevron Theatre.

Reminder to our grade 9 students (only students) moving up from ISB middle school (not new to ISB) There is a student orientation at 14:00 on Monday 11th of August. Meet in the Chevron Theatre.
Sincerely,
Philip Bradley

Message from the Dean of Students
Peter Roback
peterro@isb.ac.th
The first day of school is Wednesday, August 13 and we are excited about the coming year!

A few reminders:
Uniforms and Dress Code
ISB gains from the strength of its wonderful community of faculty, students and parents. As you prepare for the start of school, please remember that all students must wear school uniform, which in the High School consists of the white or navy blue ISB collared shirt and one of the following:

  • Khaki skirt, shorts, or pants purchased through the ISB bookstore
  • Black skirt, shorts or pants purchased through the ISB bookstore

Please note that pants, shorts, or skirts purchased outside of the school may not be worn as a school uniform and ISB PE clothing may not be worn as a substitute for school uniform clothing.

Additionally, underwear of any kind should not be visible. This includes the singlet type undershirts, popular with girls in the past few years, and the boxer shorts of boys. Undershirts should not extend out of the uniform shirt at all.

For footwear, students must wear shoes that are comfortable, practical, safe, and do not reflect poorly on ISB. Slippers and flip flop sandals (toe plug or not) are not acceptable school footwear and will not be permitted.

The High School faculty and administration will monitor students’dress to ensure that it conforms to our expectations. Please help us in ensuring that your student(s) only wear dress code conforming clothing to school. Please reference page 28 of the 2014-2015 Student Handbook for additional information.

Bicycle and Motor Scooter Helmets
For personal safety considerations, appropriate bike helmets must be worn (and properly strapped) by both students and adults while on campus. Administrators and security guards will monitor the front gate the first week of school and offer reminders and encouragement. Thank you for helping to support and model a safe environment at ISB!

Transportation
Only students with a valid Thai driver’s license may drive/park a car on campus. Students who are 15 years or older may drive/park a motor scooter on campus provided:

  • Student has a Thai driver’s license for his/her age group
  • Student obtains a parking permit sticker from the HS Office
  • Always wears an appropriate/strapped motorcycle helmet (and only carries passengers with helmets) on and off campus

Golf carts must also be operated safely and be affixed with a parking pass from the Office of the Headmistress.
