Required Student Medical Screening for August 13th 2014

by Usa Somboon
usomboon@isb.ac.th

Dear ISB Community,

The purpose of this communication is to inform you of a change in ISB’s Safety & Wellness Program which will require your action.

As you are aware, ISB has taken many positive steps this year to enhance the safety and wellness of our student population.  These enhancements touch all aspects of student healthcare:

1)   Facilities & Equipment

a.     Mobile emergency unit (Ambulance) on premises, equipped with the most up-to-date medical equipment.

2)   Healthcare Staff & Training

a.     Hired part time Healthcare Consultant

b.     Hired full time Safety & Security Coordinator

c.      Hired an additional School Nurse

d.     Trained many of our ISB Staff in CPR and First Aid

3)   Processes

a.     Implemented a new Health & Wellness Process for new student admissions.  Thereby ensuring 100% of incoming student meet the required ISB standards

b.     Implemented a new Student Athlete Process which required 100% of Student Athletes to have a physical examination (including ECG Screen) prior to participation is sporting activities

c.      Requiring enhanced Health Screenings of our current student population

As we look to the 2014-2015 school year, we will require all returning students to have a complete physical examination that includes:

1)   Overall health assessment

2)   Hearing and vision screening

3)   Cardiac evaluation (including ECG screen) – Required for Grades 5-12

Annual physicals are an excellent opportunity to provide benchmarks regarding your child’s overall health.  This long-term history provides physicians a complete record of your child’s progress and development over time.  This information enables early detection of emerging issues, as well as being informed of any changes related to recent illnesses or injuries.  The physical examination also serves as a great opportunity to discuss immunization needs.

Action required:

All returning students are required to have the Comprehensive Physical Form (Select Link) completed by the start of next school year.  We suggest that you either follow up with your home country physician or take advantage of ISB established packages at either World Medical Center or Bumrungrad International Hospital.

You may call World Medical Center at 02-836-9999 or Bumrungrad Hospital at 02-667-1555 to schedule an appointment.  When making the appointment, please make sure to indicate that this is for the ISB Comprehensive Physical for an Existing Student.  In addition, please provide grade and date of birth of the student and remember to bring the Comprehensive Physical form and the student ID (if you have ID) to the appointment so that you may receive the established package pricing.  Grades Kindergarten through 4th grade (without ECG) price for the physical exam is approximately 1500 baht at both hospitals and the price of physical for grades 5 through 12 (with ECG) is roughly 1700 baht at World Medical Center and 2000 baht at Bumrungrad.  If however, an abnormal finding requires that your child have further testing and evaluation by a specialist, there may be additional cost incurred.

ISB is committed to your child’s overall development, both educationally and health related.  Should you have any questions about either ISB’s Health & Wellness Program or the required Comprehensive Physical Form, please contact Kristin Simpson, ISB Health Consultant at kristins@isb.ac.th.

Sincerely,

Usa Somboon                         Kristin Simpson                                 Dr. Andrew Davies

Headmistress                         Nurse Consultant                              Head of School

Note:  This screening will also serve as your Physical requirement should you choose to participate in Middle School or High School athletics.

German Speaking Community

by Andrew Davies
andrewd@isb.ac.th

Dear German Speaking Community,

We are planning to set up a mother tongue/fluent Speaking Language Group for ISB students.

It us of utmost importance to keep up studies in your mother tongue to ensure a cultural connection, identity and a possible re-integration in your home country. Studies show that the growth of your mother tongue directly and positively strengthens the acquisition of other languages, including English.

Please click on the link below and fill out the form until May 25th if your child is a fluent German speaker (regardless of your child’s nationality) for us to assess how many students at ISB could be interested in participating in this program.

Contact Email: kentarou@isb.ac.th

Upcoming grade 6 band students are planning to purchase instruments for band classes next year. In doing so, some parents are looking for second-hand instruments to purchase.

If you have following band instruments (flute, oboe, bassoon, clarinet, alto/tenor/baritone saxophone, trumpet, French horn, trombone, euphonium/baritone, tuba and/or percussion kit) that are in good condition and if you would like to sell them, please contact us at <kentarou@isb.ac.th> and bring instruments to the MS band rooms (#119  or 107 in the Cultural Center) before Friday, May 30 for us to evaluate and give an estimated price. We will then send a list of available instruments to parents who are interested in purchasing second hand instruments.

Please be advised that we are not able to guarantee that all the instruments will be sold due to the condition or interested buyers.

If you have further questions, please feel free to write tokentarou@isb.ac.th.
