Counselor Newsletter

Kevin Davy
kevind@isb.ac.th

Grades 9 and 10: Study for exams and touch base with teachers regarding final assignments/assessments.

Grade 11: The Juniors completed Junior Seminar #4 May 7 and 8 during either their free periods or Flex. The counselors spoke to the Juniors regarding creating and finalizing their college/university lists and the counselors reviewed the application process. Juniors were also asked to update/edit their activities in Powerschool.

The last Junior University Lab will be this Monday, May 12 during Flex in Rm. 203.

Grade 12: The HS Counseling Office hopes you have done well in your first week of exams.

There are still a few Internship opportunities available through the Summer School program.  Come see Mr. Callahan to find out more and sign up for an enlightening summer experience.

Seniors – 50 seniors have not made their choices for the Senior Transitions Day activities on May 26th.  If they do the survey on Naviance —> About Me —> Senior Transition Choices 2014 (it takes about 5 minutes) they’ll have a great time!  If they don’t, their choices will be made for them.  Which would your son or daughter prefer?

There are still many Seniors who have not reported their admissions results to their counselors. This is important data; please inform your counselor of your admissions results.

College visits

On Thursday, May 8 Australian National University (ANU) visited ISB and next week, ISB will host university representative from the Instituto Europeo di Design Milan (Italy) on Wednesday, May 14 and St. George’s Hospital Medical Center (UK) on Friday, May 16.

Thank you,
The High School Counseling Office

Athletics Update

Andy Vaughan
andyv@isb.ac.th

This weekend signals the last of this year’s sport with some of our HS students competing in the BISAC Under 15 tennis and softball tournaments held at Bangkok Patana School on Saturday. We wish all our athletes the best for this weekend

It has been a disrupted year of sport with protests causing cancellations of tournaments, practices and of course the shift of IASAS Rugby to Singapore. Next year we look forward to hosting IASAS Rugby and Swimming in the second season alone with exchanges in Cross Country, Tennis and Track and Field. Next week the BISAC board will finalise tournament locations for the 2014-15 school year.

At this time in the year I would like to thank the wonderful work of our Booster Club for all their dedication to supporting the Arts and Athletics at ISB. The Booster Club is a terrific group of parents who make ISB a very special place for all of us… Panthers merchandise, Pancake Breakfasts, Spirit tents, team parents, donations, IASAS support, the list goes on and on! Most of all thank you for your panther spirit and positive contribution to ISB, it is an honour to work with you all.

We are in the process of finalising calendars for next year and will soon be able to share the Athletics calendar for next year to the community. Please be aware that both season one and three will back into the October break and the Songkran break; if you are booking early flights for these holidays, please be aware that teams will return to Bangkok on the first Sunday in October break and the firstMonday in the Songkran break.

Go Panthers!

Andy Vaughan
Athletics Director

Cafeteria News…Did You Know…?
Michelle Mueller Ihrig
cafeteria@isb.ac.th

…That we make it a top priority to serve chicken at ISB which is FREE of both Antibiotics and Growth Hormones!  Why is this so important for you and your family?  Because long term exposure to antibiotics and hormones, whether taken directly or through another source, actually weaken our immune systems by reducing our bodies’ natural ability to fight infection and bacteria, thus leaving us much more prone to illness.  Furthermore, sources which impact our own hormone balance, in this case with growth hormones in food, can have all sorts of negative side effects for our kids which appear in different ways.  Rest assured knowing your children can enjoy all the healthy chicken items on our menus at school. This is great news considering these dishes are, hands down, some of the school wide favorites!  Enjoy.
