Job & Maria Fundraiser

by Marlies Goense-Suijver
marliessuyver@hotmail.com

For eight years our school has been raising money for the Job & Maria Charity. This charity was established to honor the memory of the twins Job & Maria Berkhout, 6 year old first graders at ISB, whom we lost in the devastating 2004 tsunami. The Job & Maria Scholarship Fund was set up in 2006 by Karin and Petro (Job & Maria’s parents) For the past eight years, the scholarship fund has enabled 6 Thai children to continue their schooling. This year, to earn money for the scholarship fund, we will have a collection box at the ES Breezeway from May 6-9th. Then on May 9th, we plan to incorporate a fun event into the Panter Paws track and field program to remember Job and Maria.

Please, support a good cause and send in your donation! If you have any questions, please email: marliessuyver@hotmail.com

NaNoWriMo Book Launch – May 14th

by Selena GALLAGHER
selenag@isb.ac.th

Last November many students took part in NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month), including all of grade 7 and around 70 keen elementary students, and a great number of those became NaNoWriMo ‘winners’, successfully meeting or exceeding their word count goals. However, since then, some extremely dedicated students have taken on the possibly even more monumental task of editing and revising their novels and preparing them for publication. As a result we now have a number of newly-published authors among our student body. Come and help us celebrate their achievements at our NaNoWriMo Book Launch on Wednesday 14th May from 2.30 to 3.30pm in the Main Library.

Panther Swim Team AGM, Thursday, May 15th, 7:00 pm MS MPR

by Tom Edwards
tomandaimee.edwards@gmail.com

It is time to gather nominations for all Panther Swim Team Governing Board positions.  If you have ideas about how to make the team better, here is your chance to have a voice. You may nominate yourself, if you are interested, or someone else, as long as they agree to the nomination.  We also encourage you to team up with another person and share the work for one position.  Submit your nomination today!

Nominations for all positions are made by e-mailing Tom Edwards at tomandaimee.edwards@gmail.com

Elections will take place at the Annual General Meeting:

Thursday, May 15th, 2014, 7:00 pm, MS MPR

Please plan to attend this meeting to help shape our swim team for the future!  Agenda items include a message from Coach Day as well as the election of the 2014-2015 swim team board. You must attend the meeting to vote.

A final agenda will be sent out about a week prior to the AGM.

We have made some changes to the positions on our Board for 2014-2015. We feel that all of our board members that are working to keep the team running smoothly should have a vote, so we have included the former committee coordinators as voting board members.  The positions that are open for nominations are:

President
Vice President
Secretary
Treasurer
Meet Director
Sponsorship Director
Incentive Director
Volunteer Director
Communication and Technology Director
Merchandise Director
Special Events Director

All jobs run for one year – from the day after the last day of school (June 6th, 2014) through the last day of school in June 2015.

A slate of candidates will be e-mailed out by May 12 and then the voting will take place at the AGM.

Board meetings are held monthly, with committees meeting additional times as necessary.   The monthly board meetings are held in the evening to accommodate working parents.  We understand how difficult it can be for parents who live downtown or parents who travel to attend all meetings. No worries – accommodations can be made to join via skype or phone.

Don’t hesitate to contact me to ask questions and learn more!

Thanks,

Tom Edwards
PST Vice President
