Upcoming Information Meeting for Parents of Present 5th Graders

ES Book Award Week
During the week of April 28-May 2 the ES will be celebrating books that are reflective of one of the ISB mission statements: Becoming Caring Global Citizens. Each class will nominate a book that they feel best represents this statement and one book per grade level will be chosen as the award winning book. As part of the celebrations, students will have the opportunity on their free dress day during that Thursday/Friday to dress up as a character from literature that reflects becoming a caring global citizen. If you have questions about this event or would like to find out how you can help, stop by the hub and ask Mr. Whitman.
Girl Talk Period. – Wednesday 30th April, 18:00 – 19:30, MPB
The PTA is thrilled to sponsor Girl Talk Period. This talk was first developed for the ISB swim team, and has grown by popular demand. This presentation supports ISB’s mainstream health curriculum on Human Growth and Development and extends it to reach younger girls. All girls from Grade 4 and up are invited to come along to this presentation with a parent.
Louise Saddington will facilitate part of the evening. Louise is a Learning Support teacher in our elementary school. She also has a Masters of Human Nutrition, and is a registered nutritionist with the Nutrition Society of Australia. Louise will open our evening with knowledge and suggestions for adolescent nutrition, highlighting the special needs of females during this stage. During the break, Louise will have nutritious snacks for girls to sample and recipes that can be taken home
Kristin Simpson will lead discussions about female health and development. Kristin is a nurse, and received her Bachelor of Nursing in the US. Grade Five Book Sale: April 24 and 25
The 5th grade book sale is a yearly sale put on by the 5th graders with the help of the teachers, IAs, and parents. We are collecting books now through April for the sale (April 24/25).
The Funds raised from this Charity support many Thai charities and pays for the education for many underprivileged kids who cannot afford education. Last year we raised more than 100,000 baht. This year we would like to beat that amount!

ES After School Activities (ASA) Update
Spring holiday will start on April 14th, therefore no ASA in session from Monday, April 14th until April 19th.
All ASA will resume as normal from Monday April 21st.

(Repeat) Panther Paws Track and Field
For who:
Track & Field is a series of five sessions for elementary school kids PreK – Grade 5.
What is it:
Track and Field disciplines including sprint, long distance and hurdles running, long and high jump, different throws and techniques of agility and stretching are coached by high school athletes and parents. Small competitions take place within the age group. Although the program is rich in competitiveness, the main focus is on having fun while learning and improving the track & field techniques.
When:
It will take place Friday evenings April 25, May 2, May 9, May 16, May 23 5:00-7:00pm (6:30 for Pre K to 2nd grade).
Sign in:
Please sign up each child separately and pay the fee of 700 baht per child in the community activities office or drop it in an envelope with your childs name on it in the black box in the CAO . Please note every family has to provide a volunteer, preferably a parent, each session.

Events:
Running
There will be distance runs 50m, 70,m 100m, 200m, 400m and hurdles according to the ages. The athletes will learn how to start, to stay in their lane and proper runningtechniques.
Throwing
We will have various throwing events. All athletes will learn how to throw a javelin,
vortex and the shot put. The weight of the shot put will be according to their age.
Jumping
In this event the athletes will learn the technique (approach and landing) of long jump.
Grade 2 to 5 be introduced to the techniques of high jump.
Fly
The purpose for this event is to develop strengths and fitness to improve the running ability. Ropes will be placed in equal short distances and the athletes have to run over them without touching. After succeeding we start taking ropes (one a time) away and the athletes have to lengthen their step to jump over the ropes.
Agility
Agility consist an obstacle course using hula hoops, cones, jumping ropes and hurdles to increase the athletes speed and coordination.
High school Track and Field athletes will demonstrate/coach each Track&Field event every week.
