Host families needed for ISB’s Scholarship Program

by Dr. Andrew Davies
Head of School
andrewd@isb.ac.th

Dear ISB Parents,

For the 2014/15 school year, ISB will be accepting additional students as part of our scholarship program. This program is designed for highly capable Thai students whose families have a demonstrated financial need. The students will be enrolled in our High School in August 2014.

We are now looking for volunteers to provide housing for these students for the 2014/15 school year. Ideally we are seeking host families that:

Live close to ISB

Speak English at home

Have a spare bedroom

Have a HS child

Would enjoy the experience of housing a scholarship student

Host families would be expected to provide food, lodging and some incidental expenses. The ISB Scholarship Fund would take care of uniforms, cafeteria meals, school trips, some clothes, school supplies, certain other incidentals and transportation costs home for holidays.

If you are interested in volunteering to host one of these students, please complete the Host Family Expression of Interest Form by clicking on this link by April 11, 2014. If you should have any questions, please contact our Scholarship Program Coordinator, Mr. Tony Arnold at anthonya@isb.ac.th

All families who submit an Interest Form will be contacted to arrange an appointment for an interview.

Sincerely,

Dr. Andrew Davies
Head of School

World Scholar’s Cup – Volunteers Needed for March 29th

by Selena GALLAGHER
selenag@isb.ac.th

Take one part team debate, add a collaborative writing challenge, mix in a thoughtful test of knowledge, then finish with a fast-paced multimedia quiz show – the Scholar’s Bowl – and there you have the template for the festival of learning that is the World Scholar’s Cup.

Over the weekend of 29th and 30th March, ISB will be hosting the Bangkok Round of the World Scholar’s Cup, where students will work together in teams of three to research, debate and solve problems related to this year’s theme – The World Within – over six inter-related subject areas.

To make this event a success, we need to recruit some volunteers to serve as debate adjudicators on Saturday 29th March. This will involve attending a brief training session on the day, and then adjudicating three team debates according to the guidelines you will be given.

There are two debate sessions. The first session, in the morning, will be for the Senior teams – students aged 15 and over – and will require a time commitment of approximately 8.30am to 1.30pm. The afternoon debate session is for the Junior teams – students 14 and under – and will require a commitment of around 12.30pm to 5.30pm.

If you are interested in getting involved and helping out as a debate adjudicator on the day, please email Selena Gallagher (selenag@isb.ac.th), indicating which session you would prefer.

You can find out more about the World Scholar’s Cup program at their website:

by Kerri Fitzgerald
kerrif@isb.ac.th

Does Princess Mononoke mean anything to you? Do you want The Jacksons back? Come and hear music from this popular anime film and hear The Jackson’s famous tune: ” I Want You BACK” at the HS Band and  String Concert Wednesday April 2 in the Chevron beginning 6:30 pm.

This is the last concert  for our HS instrumentalists so be sure to get there early to ensure a good seat. Regular dollops of live music help elevate our spirits and keep us all nicely tuned and  balanced. Please encourage good theatre etiquette by turning your cell phones off and only moving during the applause points.

All registrations must provide one volunteer to help on race day or pay a THB 2,000 (no volunteer fee)
