Grade 3 and 7 students raise over 500,000 for After the Wave!
by David W. Anderson
davida@isb.ac.th
A HUGE Thank you to Grade 3, Grade 7 and the entire ISB community for their continued support of After The Wave. The Grade 3 Read-A-Thon raised 335,867 baht and the Grade 7 Technology Free Day raised 203,240 baht.
For those of you new to the community, teachers at ISB established After The Wave, a registered Thai foundation, in response to the 2004 tsunami.
Our mission is to assist children and their families with the basic needs and expenses of school. Our focus is the Phang-Nga region of Southern Thailand, primarily at the R 35 School. ATW supports children who do not have the basic necessities for school. We also have an emergency medical fund as well as a scholarship fund for students who need support to attend University or vocational training after they graduate from R 35.
One of the students we sponsored recently graduated from university (our first). His thank you letter follows.
Dear After the Wave Foundation and sponsors,
My name is Tanongsak Timpo, nick name “Toe”. Thanks to the generosity of After The Wave Foundation, I was able to graduate from Prince of Songkla University and obtain my dream job as an engineer. This letter is to express my gratitude and appreciation for all that After The Wave has done for me.
Following graduation from R 35 in Phang Nga I was accepted to study engineering at Prince of Songkla University, Hat Yai campus. I was thrilled but also unsure that I would be able to attend university because my family and I could not afford the high tuition and dues. ATW’s scholarship helped me afford books and other necessary school supplies and day-to-day necessities (like food). Without the scholarship I simply would have not been able to attend university.
Following graduation I am working as a production engineer for a factory in Saraburi; a job I have always dreamed of.
It is my hope and promise that I will give back to the program and help future disadvantaged students like myself accomplish their dreams for a higher education and a better life.
No words describe my appreciation.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Sincerely,
Tanongsak Timpo
Again, Thanks to the entire ISB community for your continued support for After the Wave.
Sincerely,
David Anderson

ISB New Tennis Courts
by Andy Vaughan
andyv@isb.ac.th
Dear Community,
We are excited that the new tennis courts in the Sports Complex have finally been handed over to ISB and that we now have access for our students to start to use this facility starting Monday of next week.
Over the coming weekend our Panther Tennis Team coaches will move to the Sports Complex and will base their office out of the Aquatics/Tennis office on level two of this building. For the next two weeks the courts will only be available for Panther Tennis Team trainings and will not be available for the community to book. We aim to use this time to ensure that all systems are working well before we open this facility up for any further bookings.
For all students having Panther Tennis trainings, please communicate with your coaches to ensure what court you will be training on. At times of high demand there may be some trainings that occur on the old courts as well as the new courts due to the need for court space.
All personal court bookings still take place as per usual for the old courts. This procedure can be found at: https://inside.isb.ac.th/
We look forward to getting the full use of these courts and seeing the benefit they will have on our tennis program and tennis athletes.
Volunteers needed for 2014 North Bangkok Basketball League (NBBL) season
by Kevin Sypolt
kevinjan@optonline.net
ksypolt@gmail.com
We are in need of volunteers for the upcoming 2014 NBBL season. Online player registration has been open since early January with 200+ players already registered. We now need the following volunteers to be able to organize and run the NBBL season and provide the best experience for the players participating in the league.
• Team Coaches
• We need coaches for each individual team. Please see the Division info further below for a listing of Divisions vs. grades.
• Please volunteer as a head or assistant coach for a division. Or alternatively, volunteer with another person to co-coach a team.
• Division Coordinators
• We need a person in each division to take the lead coordinating that division. This could be one of the coaches in that division, or a non-coaching parent in that division.
• General Coordinators
• We need volunteers to help with the general administrative tasks involved in running the league: games scheduling, referees, timekeepers & scorekeepers, treasurer, equipment & facilities, etc.
• This could be any parent; no level of basketball experience is needed to help out.
• Sponsors
• The NBBL is seeking sponsorship to subsidize this year’s league. Specifically, if the NBBL is to provide extra training by the Top Flight coaches this season similar to last season, we need additional funding since the revenue from registration fees alone is not enough to cover those costs. If any organizations or individuals are willing to provide sponsorship funds, or have any recommendations, please contact info@nbbl.asia. We are seeking to put sponsor logos onto the player’s jerseys, amongst other possibilities.
Please consider volunteering, especially if you have children participating and regardless of your familiarity with basketball. If you have any interest, please email info@nbbl.asia to discuss.

• 8 weeks of regular games will begin on the weekend of Fri.-Sat., March 14-15.
• Division tournament games will conclude the season on the weekend of Fri.-Sat., May 23-24.
