GCW is here!
Peter Roback

As your children head out for Global Citizenship Week in the coming days, please know that our sponsors will do their best to look after them, ensure their safety, and provide a fun learning environment.  Part of that learning centers around the students taking on some independence and responsibility away from home, yet in safe settings.  For this reason, we ask that you let them go a little this week so they can fully immerse themselves in a new culture, habitat, and overall experience.  In cases of emergency, please contact me (at any hour) and I will reach the group and put you in contact with your child.  They are off to wonderful experiences and will return with stories, memories, and a new outlook on friends, themselves, and the world.

For those students in local (non-overnight) courses, please remember to sign their provided Gate Pass if you give permission for them to leave campus before 2:05pm (students will not be allowed to leave campus for lunch).

Counseling Center News

Students will be departing for GCW soon. Encourage them to connect with those on the trip with them, disconnect from their phones, and enjoy a fabulous learning experience!

Grade 9
Mr. Davy is continuing individual conferences with the grade 9 students to look at their four year plan and start the discussion about course selection for next year. Be sure to ask your child what courses he/she plans on taking next year.

Grade 10
Sophomore Seminar #3 was held on Monday, 10 February, and Thursday, 13 February. This Seminar pulled together the information from Seminar #1 and #2. The focus was on career research and course selection for next year.

The next Seminar (#4) will be individual conferences with his/her counselor to discuss course selection for next year. Be sure to talk with you child about his/her plans for grades 11 and 12. Is the full IB diploma the right choice for him/her? Are there courses which are necessary for admissions to the major he/she is considering?

Grade 11
The deadline for all Junior Assignments to be turned in has long passed.

Unfortunately there are quite a few juniors who have not done so. Please ask your child if he/she still needs to complete the work and turn it in to Khun Vannee in the High School Counseling Office. Once that is done, the student  can then make the appointment for their Junior Conference with the counselor and his/her parents. The days are running out! All Junior Conferences should be completed by 13 March before Parent Teacher Conferences!

If you missed the Junior Parent presentation, a copy of the power point can be accessed here: https://inside.isb.ac.th/hscounseling/

If you have not registered for a parent account on Naviance, you can still do so. Ask your child for the registration code that was given to him/her at the beginning of the year. You can also, contact your child’s counselor to receive the code to activate your account. You will learn more about Naviance during the Junior Conference.

Grade 12
It is important to encourage your child to maintain his/her motivation throughout this semester. The last semester of high school still counts and students should remain engaged and productive!

Many students who have applied to university have already received acceptances! As of today, 151 seniors have processed applications to colleges and universities. 90 students have received one or more acceptances for a total of 188 offers of admissions. Way to go Seniors!! Please remind your child to come by to see their counselor about their application decisions so we can keep track of them. Also, encourage your child to thank the teachers who wrote a letter of recommendation for him/her!

University Visits
The unrest in Bangkok has resulted in many universities canceling their visit to Thailand. We hope that upon our return from GCW we will have many university representatives on campus again. In the meantime, there are three fairs that will be taking place downtown:

Study in Canada Fair (Feb 22) Ballroom, Novotel Bangkok Pleonchit from 11:00-17. Free IELTS and TOEFL workshops 10:00-12:00. More information at  www.educationau-incanada.ca

AEO US College Tour (Feb 22) Athenee Hotel Ballroom from 12:30 to 4:00pm.

Linden Tour (Feb 22) Four Seasons Hotel (155 Rajadamri Road) 1:00-4:00 pm.

Parents are welcome to attend these events.

IASAS CULTURAL CONVENTION (CC)
Kerri Fitzgerald
kerrif@isb.ac.th

IASAS CULTURAL CONVENTION (CC) is coming up (March 6- 8 th) and involves over 70 HS students plus staff. This year CC Music will be held at ISKL, Art, Dance and Drama are traveling to Jakarta (JIS), Forensics and Debate will be hosted in Taipei at TAS.

At ISB we will hold CC showcases so that you can all catch a glimpse of our amazing artists and orators before they travel away on March 5th.  It’s like our very own mini Arts Festival!

From February 24 – March 3 we are hoping that the CC Art  exhibition of the 25 pieces chosen to be taken to Jakarta will go on display in the Main Library. This will depend on the length of time the framing process takes.

On both February 26th and 27th starting at 2:30 pm  in the HS Choir Room, CC music delegates will perform some of their challenging and beautiful pieces. Come along and be inspired.

February 26th is also the showcase for Forensics and Debates delegates – in the pit at the Main library from 2:30 pm.

Finally on March 3rd, the CC Dance and Drama  Showcases will be held in the CCT (2 shows – 3:00pm and 5:30pm). The Drama piece will be performed second at the 5:30 performance

Come and be amazed at the wealth of talent at ISB.
