Honors and High Honors Students from Semester 1

Philip Rogers
philr@isb.ac.th

We have had another successful semester at ISB in many different areas.  We celebrate our student achievement in their performances, service, athletic endeavors, and friendships.  Of course, one of the important ways our students demonstrate their learning and success is through academics.  We proudly recognize the grit, determination, effort, and achievement of our first semester Honor Roll and High Honor Roll students.

All our students, not just those recognised below, have made a significant effort to improve themselves and grow as young men and women.  They are supported in this endeavor by our faculty in nurturing and challenging young minds to overcome new learning and assessment.

To qualify for the Honor Roll, students earn a GPA between 3.5 and 3.899 and for the High Honor Roll, students have a GPA, 3.9 or higher, achieved during last semester

The High School faculty, counselors, and administration congratulate the following students:

Schedule Changes Have Come and Gone

Students’ schedules are now “set in stone” as all changes have been finalized.  Have a great semester all.

We apologize in the Counseling Office for the fact that a number of universities that were scheduled to come to ISB, decided to postpone their visits due to the political situation in Thailand.  All the schools expressed a desire to come as soon as their respective schools give them permission to travel in Thailand again.  Thanks for your patience and understanding.

Seniors: Hopefully you finished submitting your applications that are due by February 1st with your counselor – if not, better start looking for some schools with later deadlines!  We have sent the updated transcript and what’s called a “Mid-Year Report” to every school for every Senior.  One less thing for you to worry about.  Also, please let us know of any results that you’ve heard from universities.  Thanks.

Juniors:  Junior Seminar #3 is January 29th and 30th during your free period or flex January 30thA most important seminar.  There is University Night for Grade 11 parents on the 30th at 6:30 pm in MPB-1.  Make sure that your parents attend so that they can be informed and help you with university stuff!  Don’t forget to finish the Junior Packet that you received at Junior Seminar.   Parents, kindly complete the Parent Profile to help your counselor get a better idea of what a nice young person your son/daughter is!

Sophomores – Make-up for Sophomore Seminar is on Monday, January 27th, in room 203 from 2:10-3:00.  You’ll find out what people like yourself study in university and tend to do for a living.  You might be surprised about the results!

Freshmen – Many of you have a free period for the first time this semester.  Do you know how to use it wisely?  What do you do during your free period?  Study?  Ask for help from teachers?  Catch up on Facebook?  Eat?  Sleep?  Hang out with friends?  All of the above?  What is the optimum use of time in a free period?  Do you know?  Ask your counselor!!

BISAC Tournaments Wrap Up U17 Season Two
Andy Vaugh
andyv@isb.ac.th

Tomorrow is the culmination of our Under 17 season two sports with BISAC tournaments hosted across Bangkok. ISB will host the U17 Boys and Girls Rugby and Touch Football tournaments from 8.00am till 4.30pm. TRAILL International school will also be hosting the U17 Boys Basketball tournament here at ISB tomorrow and Sunday. Our girls U17 Basketball team will be travelling to ASB in Bangna for their final tournament. We wish all our teams the best as they put all their season’s training into action in these tournaments.

It is with sadness that we had to move IASAS Rugby and Touch to Singapore American School due to the current instability here in Thailand. It was too risky to assume that the current political climate was going to be safe enough for teams to travel here in two weeks time. We are extremely grateful for Mimi Molchan and Kim Criens, Athletic Directors at Singapore American School for picking up this tournament at such late notice and are excited to be co-hosting with them in Singapore. Students who have made teams are reminded that passports and money are due in on Monday.

Parents, please reserve February 12 for the second season sports banquet, which will take place in the Rajendra Gymnasium from 5.30pm. We look forward to celebrating the season and sharing this night with coaches, parents and athletes.

Once again, we wish our U17 teams all the best for this weekends tournaments and hope that many of you can get out to support our teams.
