Welcome Back
We were delighted to welcome children back to school for the start of another great semester of learning. Thank you for your patience and cooperation during what has been a unique start to school. We ask that you continue to read our communications carefully for any changes to the usual schedule. A special ‘hello’ to our 16 new students and their families. We trust your first week at ISB has been filled with many enjoyable ‘firsts’! We are looking forward to this very productive phase of learning and teaching in the weeks’ leading up to the Songkran holiday in April. Opportunities for improvement and progress abound!
Aimee Buckner Visits ISB
Aimee Buckner, author of professional books Notebook Know-How, Reading Notebooks and Nonfiction Notebooks, will be visiting ISB January 20th -24th. Aimee is a master practitioner who will work with teachers on developing common notebook language, best ways to utilize notebooks and how notebooks can be used as an important piece of a reading and writing body of evidence. Aimee will be conducting labsites in grades 3 -5, as well as lead conversations about using notebooks to scaffold writing and how to know when students are ready to use notebooks with grades K-2 teachers and interested MS staff.
Next Thursday, she will also offer a parent training for those interested ES and MS parents on the power of notebooks. We hope you can join us!

When: Thursday, January 23rd from 8:00 – 9:00 a.m.

ES PTA Parent Coffee
The PTA coffee, for all ES parents, especially those new to ISB, will be held right before the parent training session with Aimee Buckner. Right after drop-off, from 7:25 am (MPB 2 & 3) (up above by the zigzag at the very front of ISB).
ES Make-up Photos-Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2014
New students who came to school on or after September 16, 2013 will have their pictures taken on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 from 7:30-2:00 pm in the ES MPR. Please check your child’s schedule if it is PE day for her/him. S/He will need an extra ISB uniform shirt for this photo session.
A retake session will also be available for other students from 2:05-3:00 pm in the ES MPR. This is completely optional and requires signing up now. Students will not be allowed to miss class time to retake their photo. You must supervise your child during the photo time after school.
If you would like to take advantage of this option, please e-mail Khun Tina (tinaratr@isb.ac.th) by Monday, January 20, 2014.

Our ES Physical Education Celebration of Learning is coming soon. This is a day in which students participate in a variety of activities showcasing their skills for you to see.

Why Thai workshop
All new Thai parents are warmly invited to join our workshop entitled “Why Thai”. We believe that a strong native language that is used for a variety of purposes is an asset and allows our children to become successful learners. This is a repeat of last year’s workshop and is dedicated to the importance of Thai as a native language in the lives of our children. The workshop will be held on Friday, January 31, in ES Multipurpose Room (MPR) from 7:30 to 9:00. We hope to see you there!
ES After School Activities Update
This Semester’s After School Activity program will begin on Monday, February 24th .
The following are some important dates for you to note in your calendar:
- Friday, January 31st – Activity Listing & important registration information to be found in your child’s Friday folder.
- Friday, January 31st – After School Activity booklet and registration will be available online.
- Friday February 13th– Confirmation of ES ASA are sent home via the Friday Folder·

After School Supervision – Reminder
Please ensure you know where your child is each afternoon and that maids and nannies understand ISB policy around supervision after school. For safety’s sake, ES students MAY NOT be on campus after school unless supervised by an adult. Thank you for your cooperation.
