Message from the Principal
Philip Bradley
philipb@isb.ac.th

As the semester comes to a close, and the holiday season approaches all of our students are deserving of a good break. The nature of HS is always intense and students have been working hard in so many arenas  – academic – athletic – artistic – creative – social – emotional. I certainly hope that this holiday allows them to change some of these routines, slow down, spend some quality time with family and spend a moment to reflect upon what they have learnt about themselves this last semester. Encourage them to be mindful that some of the most profound learnings come from things that did not work as planned!

If you have yet to visit the ISB High School Facebook page I recommend it, it gives you a quick overview of the semester. Enjoy…

On behalf of the High School faculty and administration I wish you all a peaceful and safe break and we thank you for your support.

We return to school on Monday 14th January 2014.

PowerSchool Access and Report Cards
Philip Bradley
philipb@isb.ac.th

PowerSchool access will return for parents and students on December 20th.  Families with outstanding fees, missing materials, or unresolved payment issues will not be given access until the issue(s) is/are resolved.

In an effort to be more efficient and greener we are issuing first semester report cards through the PowerSchool Quick Lookup page. On the Quicklook Up page use the link at the top right to access a PDF report card for your son/daughter. The report can be saved and filed electronically and or printed. If you experience any technical difficulties please advise and we can print a copy for you.

Possible Schedule Changes

Philip Bradley
philipb@isb.ac.th

In general students retain the same schedule for second semester.  In some cases, due to changes, semester courses, or other factors, a student’s schedule changes for next term.  In these cases we do the best we can to keep the same teachers for each student.  Students will be informed of schedule changes on the first day of school.

Counseling News
Kevin Callahan
kevinc@isb.ac.th
Another thank you to our parent volunteers in the Counseling Office for your most appreciated help the past week (and the rest of the year too!) in straightening out the counseling library and getting everything so well organized.  Your work all year saves us so much time that we can spend with students, and we want you to know that your help means a lot to us!

Final Exams are finished!
We hope that all students did their best on the exams and that the results went even better than expected.  You’ve earned a much-needed rest over the break – enjoy it!

Seniors:Hopefully you finished submitting your applications that are due by February 1st with your counselor – if not, better start looking for some other schools!  Then get some rest over the break and enjoy your family time.  Remember seniors:  you don’t need to request that we send an updated transcript including first semester grades to the colleges to which you have applied.  It’s automatic!  We send the updated transcript and what’s called a “Mid-Year Report” to every school for every Senior.  One less thing for you to worry about!

Juniors: Don’t forget to finish the Junior Packet that you received at Junior Seminar.   It is due at the end of January, but get it done over the break, it will be less stressful for you.  (And those few of you that haven’t done the University Springboard List, get that done as soon as possible.) And, the PSAT has arrived and was handed back after the second exam Thursday, with an explanation of scores and how to use it.   If you weren’t there, just go see your counselor.  He or she will have yours and can give you a couple of tips on how to get the most out of it as preparation for the SAT.

Sophomores – have a safe and restful break.  The ACT Plan will arrive at ISB early next semester and we will go over the results and information with you to look a little more at your career preferences and options – look for the announcement.  There is a Sophomore Seminar on January 20-21 that will give you a few ideas about what you might like to study and do for a living in the future.

Freshmen – You’re not rookies any more, Freshmen!  You did a good job in your exams and they won’t be quite as scary or intimidating in the future.  You’ve earned your vacation, so relax and enjoy yourselves.  Read a book for fun!

Are you leaving Thailand and ISB at the end of this semester??

If you will be leaving ISB at the end of this semester, please contact the Registrar, Khun Namwan, as well as your son/daughter’s counselor.

Wishing you all a safe and happy holiday season, and we’ll see you in January!

The Counselors

Arts Unleashed: Bumbershoot. During the first week back (Jan 13 – 17th)  FPAC (the Fine and Performing Arts Council) is running an arts advocacy week. Two important guest artists will be performing as part of that week so if you are interested in theatre you might like to attend.

We will be demonstrating our very best ISB theatre etiquette for these performances so there will be no late entry or cell phones on during the shows.

On Wednesday Jan 15th at 2:15 in the CCT ,John Hudson who is an actor, director, author, comedian and theatre improvisor will present a one man show. This is  suitable for middle school and up.

Then on Thursday Jan 16th at 2:30 pm in the CCT, Daniel Foley, a British actor, will perform “Krapp’s Last tape’ by Samual Beckett. This is of the genre ‘Theatre of the Absurd’ so is only suitable for high school students and up!

Thursday Jan 16th at 5:30 pm you are welcome to join us for “Artists on the Roof” in the CC building on Level 3  outside on the terrace. There are limited seats available.
