Road Safety

by Usa Somboon
usomboon@isb.ac.th

Dear Parents,

For the safety of our students and our community please be reminded that:

1.  The area across from  the Elementary school  bicycle gate (along side of Nichada’s Nichakorn estate)  is not a drop off area. Please do not stop, pull into the bike lane and/or make a u-turn or 3 point turn. These actions are a danger to children who are walking or riding their bikes to school .

2.  The area in front of Starbucks is not an area for dropping off students.  Nichada has requested our cooperation and would like to inform ISB parents and community members that their security guards will strictly monitor this area.

Thank you for your cooperation and assistance in keeping our community safe.

Kind regards,
Usa Somboon

Filipino Lunch – Nov 22nd

by: Joy Davy
joy.davy@yahoo.com

On behalf of the Filipino community of ISB, we would like to thank everyone who came to donate and buy at the bake sale yesterday. The response was overwhelming and we raised a significant amount, which we will add to the Philippine Relief Fund.

We would also like to remind the community that tomorrow, Friday, November 22 will be the Filipino lunch. Please don’t forget to send some cash with your kids to buy their lunch.

We will start serving at 10:00 am up to 12:30 pm (or until food servings last). Filipino all-time favorites like adobo, pancit and lumpia will be served. We are also making Filipino desserts representative of the different provinces (Cebu, Leyte, Samar, Bicol and Bohol) severely affected by the typhoon and will include bibingka, biko, leche flan, maja. bibingka cassava, and binignit, quite a handful of  probably familiar and not so familiar names but be assured, they are all delicious!

Come and enjoy, it’s a lunch date!

ThaiCraft Fair – Saturday, November 23rd

by Chris Tananone
ctananon@isb.ac.th

Handmade crafts by village artisans from over 50 producer groups all over Thailand will be on sale just in time for holiday shopping.

In addition, there will be two craft workshops: Sa Si Moom group will teach their traditional-style appliqué work to sew onto a drawstring purse and Fabric Art will guide participants through the creation of a Christmas design from scraps of material to become a seasonal pouch of good cheer. Photos are attached.

Come shop, make a craft, and support this Fair Trade social enterprise which has partnered with ISB for over 30 years! The ThaiCraft Fair will take place in our Rajendra Hall (HS/MS air conditioned gym) from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Toy Donations Needed

by Kari BACKES
karib@isb.ac.th

Attention ALL PARENTS! It’s that time of year again! Our next toy collection for the School Toy Libraries(STL) will take place soon – from November 24-Dec. 6. BE QUICK- NO LATE DONATIONS ACCEPTED!  Please drop the toys in the familiar boxes in front of ES Library.

The STL, School Toy Librarians,  is a project that helps provide village children with toys. The children are able to check out toys from their library for a week in exchange for acts of community service. Your donated toys help create, build and stock toy libraries in schools throughout Thailand and give students without any toys a chance to play!

The kind of toys you donate are very important. We can’t use broken toys or games and puzzles that are missing pieces. Also, we don’t want any electronic toys because the village has no source of battery, therefore they will not be able to use the electronic toys. Stuffed animals are great, but since they are mostly for snuggling they get dirty very easily, therefore toys that the children would be able to play with would be much better. We would appreciate if you could donate toys like legos, balls, cars, puzzles, barbies, action figures, train toys, sport equipment, etc. We also would love some books in either English or Thai because the children love to read.  We would really encourage your children to donate some toys to help us build another toy library or replenish some existing ones.

Clean out your closets! Empty your toy bins! Make room for those new Christmas presents! Do some spring cleaning in December! We need your help.

Thank you,

Middle School Toy Librarians

Chevron Panther Tennis Clinic with Asia’s prominent Tennis Specialist: Dec 14 & 15

by Alina Ibrahim-Eddy
alinaeddy@gmail.com

For the first time at ISB, the Parent Tennis Committee (PTC), together with Advantage Tennis and supported by Chevron, are organizing a special 2-day tennis clinic by one of Asia’s most accomplished tennis coaches, Randall Scott, who has a 20-yr track record developing champions in Asia.  Offering a wholistic approach to developing young players in tennis, Coach Randall has also been a personal coach to Davis Cup, Grand Slam and Olympic players during their pivotal, development years.  He has been a development coach to players with 10 professional titles and 35 international, junior titles.

Coach Randall: “Over the years, many elite junior and senior players I have coached would say to me during their post match discussion — “I lost because I wasn’t playing well”……Tournament tennis is not about waiting to play well to win, it is about learning to win even when you are not playing well.  This is the attitude of a player who develops into becoming an effective competitor and peak performer.”

To know more about Coach Randall, please click on this link:

https://www.wholistictennisasia.com/about-randall/

Coach Randall will be assisted by visiting Coach Simon Tomlinson (CV attached below) from the U.K., who also has 20 years’ experience in coaching junior champions in the U.K.

The clinic, to be held on December 14-15, is open to all competitive tennis players at ISB.  The fee for each participant, inclusive of lunch, drinks, giveaways and prizes is 4,500 Baht.  There will be two sessions each day, each comprising 2.5 hours, so each participant will get 5 hours of training daily.  To maximize the effectiveness of the sessions, places will be limited to only 20, so please book a place for your child by December 2.   Registrations will be strictly based on a first-come-first-served basis.

To sign up, please email panthertennisisb@gmail.com with the following details:

  • Participant’s name, age, grade and gender
  • Number of years/past & current experience in tennis, if any

You will receive a confirmation email followed by the clinic schedule and relevant details.  All payments have to be made at the CAO by Dec 10.

For more information, please feel free to email alinaeddy@gmail.com or sandysmora@hotmail.com of the PTC.

Thank you.
