Philippine Relief Week
by Joy Davy
joy.davy@yahoo.com
The Philippines has been devastated by a strong typhoon that claimed the lives of thousands and left many people homeless and in dire need of whatever help they can get. It is impossible to watch the heartbreaking footage from various media sources and not feel the compulsion to help in any way possible.
In this regard, ISB has graciously designated all of next week as the Philippine Relief Week. We will be conducting activities to help secure donations as part of a relief fund, which will be named as the Philippine Relief Fund. A bank account has been set up in the ISB Business Office and all proceeds from the different activities will be deposited in the account. After a certain point, we will pool all the donations and send it to specific aid organizations in the Philippines, namely: Gawad Kalinga (“ give care”) and Habitat for Humanity Philippines.
The fundraising activities are as follows:
1. Bake Sale: Wednesday, November 20, 2013 from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm at the MS/HS Cafeteria.
2. Philippine Lunch: members of the Filipino community will be selling Filipino food for lunch on Friday, November 22, 2013 from 10:00 am to 1:30 pm at the MS/HS Cafeteria
3. Donation boxes will be set up in all three divisions (ES, MS, HS) and the CAO office.
Personal donations can be given directly to ISB’s Cashier’s office, indicating that they are for the Philippine Relief Fund. Funds can also be transferred from existing accounts within ISB to this account. Details of ISB’s account are as follows:
Account Name: International School Association
Account Number: 235-2-20990-8, Savings Account
Swift Code: TMBKTHBK
Bank Name: TMB Bank PCL
Central Plaza Chaengwattana Branch
3000 Phaholyothin Road, Jatujak,
Bangkok 10900, Thailand.
School Address: 39/7 Soi Nichada Thani,
Samakee Road, Bangtalad, Pakkret,
Nonthaburi 11120, Thailand
For those who wish to donate via wire transfer or via bank deposit, please email ISB a copy of your wire transfer payment slip or bank deposit slip with a note indicating that this donation is intended for the “Philippine Relief Fund.” Please send your email to ISB’s Invoice Officer, Khun Thiti-ornn at thitiora@isb.ac.th
The Filipino community is truly appreciative of the overwhelming support that the entire ISB community (administration, staff, parents and students) is willing to extend.

The Crucible by Arthur Miller – High School Drama Production
by Gareth Huxtable
garethh@isb.ac.th
International School Bangkok’s fall play is “The Crucible”, by Arthur Miller. Tickets go on sale from Wednesday 13th Nov. Performances are on Thursday Nov 21st at 3pm, Friday Nov 22nd at 3pm and Saturday Nov 23rd at 6pm.
This riveting play details the Salem Witch Hunt trials in 17th Century Puritan America. Miller’s most famous play explores the theme of hysteria as the tensions in the village of Salem are brought to boiling point.
After being caught dancing in a forest, a group of teenage girls begin to accuse the towns’ people living in Salem of being witches. When his wife is accused, John Proctor must go to the court and take a stand against authority, unaware that it will be his morals that will come under fiery scrutiny.
Miller’s play published in 1952 is still fiercely relevant in today’s political and media climate, when those that question the certainty of an institution’s values often have to do so at huge personal cost.
This is a powerful play with strong themes. The target audience would be High School and Middle School. Older Elementary students could attend at parent’s discretion.
The same production team that last year created “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” is proud this year to direct “The Crucible” for High School.
Tickets go on Sale Next Week from Wednesday Nov 13th in the Cafeteria at HS and MS lunch times. The performances are in the CCT and there is reserved seating, so book early to avoid disappointment!
Performances are on Thursday Nov 21st at 3pm, Friday Nov 22nd at 3pm and Saturday Nov 23rd at 6pm.
Adults 200 baht, Students 100 Baht.
The Crucible – an invitation to delve deeper
by Kerri Fitzgerald

Are you a film /theatre buff with a little time on your hands? Well, we’d love you to rustle up a little research to display in the foyer as a preamble to the actual play.
This is a stunning play with a legacy of theatrical acclaim. If you can google and find something (eg a critical review or an analysis) that deserves a good read then please edit a section so that it is able to be pinned up to a bulletin board (‘bite sized’) and state your sources. Please post it to me for printing.
If you are interested in helping set up the foyer with Wendy Cole (Arts rep from the Booster committee) please let me know. You would turn up around noon on Thursday Nov 21st next week to help set up the CCT foyer.
The Booster club graciously supports a pre HS play event and this year instead of a ‘Red Carpet’ we are holding: Theatre BUFFS on Saturday from 5:30 pm (ie before the 6 pm performance of The Crucible) in the CCT foyer. Your research will be on display as part of this event.
The Booster club will provide more information in the next enews
name and email at the bottom please so they can contact me
