Parent Conferences:

We hope that you found the parent conferences valuable.  Teachers have talked very positively about the opportunities to get to know parents better, to talk openly about learning goals for the year ahead, and often, with students present.  Next week, we will be offering parents an opportunity to provide feedback on the October conferences.

International Day – October 11, 2013

‘A Great Big Beautiful World’

International Day is next week!  Time to get those special outfits ready for the big day.  Students begin celebrations by wearing t-shirts to school on Wednesday 9th and Thursday 10th that relate to a country or nationality.   On Friday, students wear an International outfit: simple, traditional, colourful – all are welcome.

Parents are invited to watch ES students parade from the field to the Chevron Theatre in their country outfits from 7.30am next Friday.   The International Assembly will be streamed live to parents in two different locations:  the ESMPR and the ES Learning Hub (unfortunately, we are unable to have parents in the theatre for the Assembly due to space restrictions).

Cafeteria News

Michelle Ihrig

Did you know?  …That alongside International Day on Friday Oct. 11, the ES Cafeteria will be celebrating an International Week.  We’ll be taking a trip around the culinary world starting with China and moving on to Germany, Mexico and Italy.  The week will culminate on Friday, International Day, with a sample of Finger Foods from across the globe.  One might ask, why is this different than any other week as we already serve an international cuisine?  The difference is that each day is dedicated to a sole country with the international finger foods being those kinds that are not normally served in ES.  Guten Appetit, Mucho Gusto, Bon Appetito.  Enjoy.

Raising Multilinguals

On Friday 18th October, the EAL teachers will be hosting a workshop for all parents of multilingual children.  This workshop will be in the ES MPR from 7:30 am – 9:00 am.

This workshop will help parents to think about how they can make a language plan to support their children’s language development now and in the future.

ISB is a Nut-free Campus

As stated on p. 32 of the Parent Student Handbook, ISB is a nut-free campus. We have many students at our school with serious nut allergies. In order to keep them safe, we do not allow any kind of nuts on our campus at any time. This includes the snacks and lunches that you might send to school with your child. Thank you for your cooperation and support in keeping our children safe.

ES After School Activities Update

Please note that next Tuesday, October 8th is an early release day so all ASA will take place one hour earlier from 1:15pm-2:15pm.

There are few limited spaces available in Some of our ASA. You can still register. Remember once the ASA schedule begins there are NO REFUNDS. Most ASA have already hosted their 2nd session so there are no longer any changes permitted.

I am in the office daily from 1:30pm – 3:30pm if you have any questions or concerns.

BBSA – Baseball and softball registration is now open for the 2013-14 season

Kevin Sypolt

ksypolt@gmail.com

Registration is open for the 2013-14 season of Bangkok Baseball Softball Association (BBSA).  The fee for registration is THB 2,500 per player.  Registrations after November 1st will be subject to team availability so please register now to avoid disappointment.  Also, registrations completed after November 1st will be charged THB 3,500

BBSA has organized baseball/softball play for the past 53 years in Bangkok. There are leagues for boys and girls ages 5 yrs – 18 yrs.   BBSA is a community baseball league.  Players of all skill levels are welcome.  BBSA is committed to ensuring all players enjoy themselves, gain baseball skills and want to continue to play baseball/softball in future years.

All payments can be made at the Community Activity Office at ISB.  Payment can be made by cash, check and credit card.  The CAO office is open Monday – Friday, 7:00AM to 11:00AM and 12:00PM to 3:00PM.

Player assessment will be held on Sunday November 3rd and Sunday November 10th at the ISB fields.  All players are strongly encouraged to attend both assessment sessions but it is vital that all players attend at least one assessment session to allow the coaches to create fair and balanced teams.   Parents will be contacted about the specific times for their player’s assessment session.

Practices will begin in mid November with Opening Day for baseball/softball on Saturday, Nov 23rd.  All games are played on Friday evenings and Saturdays at ISB.  Games will continue every weekend until the league championships the weekend of February 28th/March 1st.  There will be no games during the winter break at ISB but we will continue play on Saturday, January 11th 2014.

All teams will practice once per week during the season as a weekly practice is important to skills development and to learn the fundamentals of teamwork, etc.  Most practices will take place at the ISB fields on weekday evenings (Monday – Thursday).  We have arranged a downtown Bangkok location on Thursdays for an optional weekly practice at NIST.  Parents will have to pay THB 500 for the season for this practice because NIST charges for field usage.  But all players should register to play even if they cannot commit to attending all weekly practice sessions.

On the registration form you will also have an opportunity to volunteer to be a coach, assistant coach or team parent.  Please consider helpng out with your child’s team in some way.  The kids really love having their parents helping out with their team and you will have a great time.  No previous baseball experience is necessary.

BBSA has purchased a limited number of fielding gloves and batting gloves for players who need them.  These will be sold on our assessment days on Sunday, Nov 3rd and 10th.  Please note that the BBSA no longer has any baseball cleats to sell.  So parents who want baseball cleats will need to obtain them on your own.

Please go to https://inside.isb.ac.th/cao/2011/08/17/bbsa-baseballsoftball/  to register.  If you have any questions, please contact Kevin Sypolt at ksypolt@gmail.com.

Last year we sold out so be sure to get YOUR tickets early. They will not be sold at the door. This year, the Girl Scouts will be donating 30% of all profits to the Nichada Workers Camp.

After School Supervision – Reminder
Please ensure you know where your child is each afternoon and that maids and nannies understand ISB policy around supervision after school.  For safety’s sake, ES students MAY NOT be on campus after school unless supervised by an adult. Thank you for your cooperation.

Using the Playground

Families are welcome to use the ISB playgrounds after school hours, with supervision. However, during the school day from 7:00 am to 2:00 pm, the playgrounds are to be used only by students for scheduled recess. This includes the PK/Kinder playground. After 1:00 PK dismissal, the playground should only be used by Kindergarteners for their scheduled recess. Your cooperation is appreciated.
