Thursday, September 19

Message from our MS Librarian

Dear Readers,

Do you fear intellectual stagnation?  Are you seeking profoundly new experiences?  Never fear, your librarian is here!  In the most hotly anticipated event of the fall season, the Man Booker Prize 2013 shortlist was released this week.  Considered by many to be the best shortlist in recent history and certainly the most diverse, I would like to invite whomever is interested to join me in reading all six books on the shortlist.  On a date of our choosing, we would then come together for a lovely literary salon to discuss our impressions and our predictions (or outrage if we happen to meet after the winner is announced).  Please reply if you would like to join me in this literary romp.

The books are as follows and can be found in the library:

NoViolet Bulawayo – We Need New Names

Eleanor Catton – The Luminaries

Jim Crace – Harvest

Jhumpa Lahiri – The Lowland

Ruth Ozeki – A Tale for the Time Being

Colm Toibin – The Testament of Mary

Hope you can join me!

Alegria Barclay

Repeat Announcement:  MS-HS Math Information Night

  • MS and HS Mathematics Department Overviews
  • New HS Mathematics Curricula

Repeat Announcement:  Interested in Playing Squash?

We are looking to put together a group of Middle School students (boys and girls) who might be interested in playing squash on a Beginner or Intermediate level.  We could adjust the scheduling and intensity according to family/child needs.  Depending on interest, lessons and round robins could occur in Bangkok or in Nichada.  If you are interested, please contact Rula Burrow: landofsmiles13@gmail.com or ring/iMessage 095 547 5750 with the name of your child, grade, skill level, and whether or not you’d be interested in Nichada or Bangkok (if the latter, please also tell me in which part of the city you live).

Cafeteria News, Did You Know…

… we’ve made some very important changes to the lunch menus?

Khao Soi Day is Moving – starting next week, Khao Soi days are moving from Wednesdays to Tuesdays.  Why?  Because Wednesdays have become a day of so many favorites, this way, if we spread them out a little more throughout the week, you can enjoy your favorites more often.

Thai Menu Thursdays– also starting next week, we will be serving Khao Man Gai alternating with Gai Yangevery Thursday.  Why?  Because these two dishes are the HS student’s favorite Thai menu and they have requested them to be served more often.  Also note, that in order for us to do so, 10 B will be added to the Thai Menu on these days, hence the basic rate is going up from 55 B to 65 B.  Why?  Because the serving portion of chicken you receive is much more when compared to the average of other Thai dishes.  So in order for us to serve these dishes more often, will need to add 10 B to cover our higher costs.

Weekly Allergy Menu /Information– has moved from the white menu board and now sits on top of the sushi fridge.  Why?  Because we have finally rid ourselves of the ever-beautiful white menu board to a black board, so the magnets no longer work to hold the menu.  Also welcome the new sign at the Grind, your eyes will now be saved the sore of having to stare at the old 70’s style one.  And YES, the N is supposed to be that way, it adds flavor:-)

Aroy!
