Grade 5 Book Sale Proceeds Go to Mercy Center

Posted on May 24, 2013 by Tina

On May 23, representatives from each 5th grade went to Mercy Center to give our donation from the Book Sale.  They were very appreciative of the gift, and took us on a tour of their facility.  It was wonderful.  We were able to see how many young people the Center services, from their orphanage, to their classes, to the outreach programs they run within their community and beyond.  We even had a chance to meet with Father Joseph, who is the founding father of the Center!  The students represented their classes with pride.  We were very proud of them!

Elementary School Assemblies

Posted on May 24, 2013 by Tina

At ISB, we highly value sharing and celebrating our learning with families.  This happens in a variety of ways.  For example, we have music shares, celebrations of learning, evening concerts, student led conferences, mystery readers, writing shares, science expos, poetry slams, plays, musicals, art shows, and a variety of other ways throughout the year.

Another way our students share with each other is at student assemblies.  These occur several times throughout the year, and they are a chance for our PK-grade 5 students to gather and share a song, idea, or hear messages around being global citizens.  They are focused on students sharing with other students.  Occasionally, we have parents who wish to see them.  Due to space and safety regulations, we are unable to accommodate parents coming to our student assemblies.  We do offer a DVD recording of our student assemblies when students perform.  If you would like to obtain a copy of last week’s ES music student assembly, please bring a blank DVD (available in the bookstore) to the Main Library. Circulation has a form for you to complete and they will burn a copy for you.

An upcoming student assembly is our Closing Assembly on the last day of school.  This is a student assembly only, and we will not have room to accommodate parents.  Thank you for your understanding.

Music Shares start next week!

Posted on May 24, 2013 by Tina

The Music Share starts next Thursday during music times. Students have been preparing their “acts” and we’re looking forward to seeing what they put together! ES music teachers would like to invite parents and teachers to attend their students’ performance. The schedule for the Music Share can be found here. We’re still taking late entries, so it’s not too late to sign up! See you at the Share!

Kevin Sypolt
ksypolt@gmail.com

The 14th Colgate Kids Triathlon has now been rescheduled and will take place on Saturday, May 25th at 7:30AM.  The two starts will still be at the two ISB pools.

Here is how we will handle the registration for the event:
1.    If you are already registered and you still plan to participate in the same age category and same event (individual/relay team), then you don’t have to do anything.  You are all set to participate.

2.    If you have registered but cannot participate on Saturday, May 25th – please send me an e-mail (ksypolt@gmail.com) and I will remove your registration.  You can get your refund for your registration at the Community Activity Office (CAO) at ISB.  PLEASE let me know if you are canceling your registration so we can allow others to participate.

3.    If you have registered but need to change anything in your registration (age category, individual vs relay team, relay team members, volunteer information, etc), please send me an e-mail (ksypolt@gmail.com) and I will make the necessary change.

4.    If you were not previously registered but would now like to participate on Saturday, May 25th – you may register for the event.  Go to our website (shown below) and click on the registration link on the website.  Registration will close on Monday, May 20th or when total participants reaches 225, whichever comes first.  No late registrations will be permitted so make sure you register before the close date!
We will have the race briefing on either Thursday, May 23rd or Friday, May 24th.  That information will be sent out as soon as possible.

The distances this year will be:

5-6:          50m swim, 1 km bike, 450m run

7-8:           100m swim, 2.5 km bike, 800m run
