Host families needed for new Scholarship Program

by Dr. Andrew Davies
Head of School
andrewd@isb.ac.th

Dear ISB Parents,

Next school year, ISB will be accepting two students as part of our scholarship program. This program is designed for highly capable Thai students whose families have a demonstrated financial need.

For the 2013/14 school year, we have selected two wonderful students who are from the Chiang Rai area. These young ladies will begin Grade 10 at ISB in August 2013.

We are now looking for volunteers to provide housing for these students for the 2013/14 school year. Ideally we are seeking two different host families that:

  • Live close to ISB
  • Speak English at home
  • Have a spare bedroom
  • Have a HS child
  • Would enjoy the experience of housing a scholarship student

Host families would be expected to provide food, lodging and some incidental expenses. The ISB Scholarship Fund would take care of uniforms, cafeteria meals, school trips, some clothes, school supplies, certain other incidentals and transportation costs home for holidays.

If you are interested in volunteering to host one of these students, please complete the Host Family Expression of Interest Form by clicking on this link  by May 10, 2013. If you should have any questions, please contact our Scholarship Program Coordinator, Mr. Tony Arnold at anthonya@isb.ac.th

All families who submit an Interest Form will be contacted to arrange an appointment for an interview.

Sincerely,

Dr. Andrew Davies
Head of School

Scapino – May 3rd and May 4th – Don’t miss it!

by Jo Hanson
josephih@isb.ac.th

Don’t miss the final HS Drama performance of the year. Students are presenting an adapted version of Moliere’s SCAPINO on Friday May 3rd at 3:00pm in the CC Theatre. On Saturday May 4th the Red Carpet starts at 5:00pm (food and drink sponsored by our fabulous BOOSTER Club) and the performance is at 6:00pm. There is a ‘pre-show’ both days starting in the foyer of the CCT 15 minutes before showtime.
SCAPINO is a hilarious comedy about love, mistaken identity and revenge set in Naples, Italy. The show contains lots of improvisation. It is suitable for ages 5 and up.
Tickets go on sale in the main cafeteria during HS and MS lunch until Friday May 3rd. For the Friday performance: students 50 baht, adults 100baht. For Saturday’s combined Red Carpet and Show: students 100 baht, adults 200 baht. There is assigned seating so book early.
Come dressed in a funky hat and bring your inner clown, and have a great laugh to release end-of-year tension.

by Kerry Dyke

One of our biggest events of this year’s Earth Week is our continued
support of the FIN FREE campaign, which is about getting hotels to sign the blue list,
meaning they will not serve shark fin soup or other shark products.

According to FIN FREE, since the event was published in 2 Thai newspapers
and also in the Bangkok Post their office has had a rush of hotels wanting to
sign the blue list.  To view the Bangkok Post article please see the
following link:

If you have a hotel connection that would like to join the list or
would like to know more about it, please let me know.  kerryd@isb.ac.th
