Theatre Etiquette – a timely reminder before Scarpino opens Friday May 3rd at 3 pm in the CCT

by Kerri Fitzgerald
kerrif@isb.ac.th
Arts and Activities Director

Theatres have a very defined etiquette  and I would like the ISB community to be reminded of these established norms of behaviour. Many of the rules about overcrowding come from the aspect of safety: eg the audience can never sit in the aisles or stand around the sides and back in a theatre. This is considered a fire hazard.

Please be seated on time. Late comers disrupt the audience’s theatre experience.

Young children are encouraged to attend (please leave those under the age of two with a carer), and there are bathrooms to be used at interval. It is very distracting to both performers and audience members when there are people wandering around the theatre.

No cell phones should be turned on in a  theatre (with the exception of the house manager and director). Even though we have very high quality radio mics, the frequency can be disturbed by cell phones. There have been numerous instances of radio mic interference in the past which is devastating to the performers concerned. Try to leave your phone at home or leave it off. You could try talking to those near you instead as you wait for the show to start!

There will be publicity photos to download afterwards and so there is no need for photos to be taken during the show. Please save us the embarrassment of having to take cameras and iphones off audience members.

Lastly a reminder that no food is allowed in the theatre – only water.

Jo Hanson and the performers thank you in advance for supporting their efforts. If everyone abides by these norms we can all enjoy the show.

Don’t miss the final HS Drama performance of the year

by Josephine May HANSON
josephih@isb.ac.th

Don’t miss the final HS Drama performance of the year. Students are presenting an adapted version of Moliere’s SCAPINO on Friday May 3rd at 3:00pm in the CC Theatre. On Saturday May 4th the Red Carpet starts at 5:00pm (food and drink sponsored by our fabulous BOOSTER Club) and the performance is at 6:00pm. There is a ‘pre-show’ both days starting in the foyer of the CCT 15 minutes before showtime.
SCAPINO is a hilarious comedy about love, mistaken identity and revenge set in Naples, Italy. The show contains lots of improvisation. It is suitable for ages 5 and up.
Tickets go on sale in the main cafeteria during HS and MS lunch Monday April 29th to Friday May 3rd. For Friday: students 50 baht, adults 100baht. For Saturday’s combined Red Carpet and Show: students 100 baht, adults 200 baht. There is assigned seating so book early.
Come dressed in a funky hat and bring your inner clown, and have a great laugh to release end-of-year tension.

MS Art Exhibition:

by Kerri Fitzgerald
kerrif@isb.ac.th

Come and contemplate the artistic expressions of middle schoolers over the next week. Please take time to stop by the Chevron foyer and step into the imaginative worlds of these young artists.

Learning through the arts is a powerful tool in developing deep understandings across the entire curriculum.

“It is often said that Leonardo drew so well because he knew about things; it is truer to say that he knew about things because he drew so well”

Kenneth Clarke

Credits go to Andrew Renfrow (grade 7) for the poster.

CAO Sport Seasons Survey

by Justin Wah
contact: justinw@isb.ac.th

Dear Parents,

As part of the change that we made to the CAO sport seasons last year we are seeking feedback on these changes as we plan the seasons for next year.

Please take 1-2 minutes to complete this short survey to help us improve the programs we offer.  Please discuss this with your children (specifically if you have High School kids).  It will be important that you have some feedback from them, after all they are the ones that are participating.

Click on this link to complete the survey.
