ISA Assessments 10th Grade
Graeme Scott
graemes@isb.ac.th
It has come to our attention that there is an error on your son’s/daughter’s ISA score package that you should have received this week. The scores on the first cover sheet (the landscape sheet with all scores and percentiles side-by-side) are incorrect. The following sheets in the ISA package are all correct. The purpose of the first sheet is only to summarize the data in the following sheets, so please disregard the top sheet in the package. We will get a new, accurate cover sheet to you next week.
Our apologies for the inconvenience.
Uniform Matters
Dennis Harter
dennish@isb.ac.th
Parents please speak to your children regarding the school uniform. Uniform shirts and “bottoms” must be from our school bookstore. Pants, shorts, and skirts from other stores are not allowed. I point this out because students who are out of uniform at times blame their parents for not having purchased school clothes. Please check that your child has the proper uniform so that they cannot use this excuse. Additionally, please ensure that the length of skirts and shorts extend beyond their fingertips when they are standing up straight. Rolling up the shorts beyond this height is also not allowed. Flip flops and/or beach sandals are not acceptable footwear. For more information on the uniform requirements, please see pages 21-22 of the Student Handbook.
We ask for help in this so that attention at school can be focused on learning, rather than on fashion statements and appearance. I appreciate your support. On our side, we will continue to pull students in and assign disciplinary consequences for those students out of uniform. This may result in after-school detention, missed class time (due to having to change into school uniform), or Saturday detention. Please see the Student Handbook, page 30, for more information on the consequences.
Planning Ahead – Parent-Teacher Conferences
Dennis Harter
dennish@isb.ac.th
Please note that March 15th is scheduled for Parent-Teacher Conferences. This will be an important time to discuss with your child and his/her teachers about how they are doing mid-way through the term as well as to look ahead to class registration which is later this month. Students (and you) should have a clear idea of what classes are appropriate for your child to sign up for, for the 2013-14 school year.
HS Program of Studies 2013/14
Phil Rogers
philr@isb.ac.th
The HS Program of Studies for 2013/14 is now on the ISB parent portal and can be accessed using this link. This will give students and parents the opportunity to talk to counselors about their plans for course registrations for next year. The on-line registration process will open on Wednesday 20th March and close on Monday 25th March so now is a good time to consider any adjustments to your four year plan and specifically what courses you will study next year. ISB creates the HS schedule based on student course selection and therefore it is important that all students register during the on-line window. We also ask that all students who are leaving register to ensure we have the full range of choices for incoming students and you are thinking about what courses to take at your new school.

Counseling Newsletter
Kevin Callahan
kevinc@isb.ac.th
All: Welcome back from GCW to everyone. We hope that your trips were happy, productive, and safe! And we hope that you aren’t too worn out from your trips to get some good work done!
The Counseling department is looking for a volunteer parent to be in charge of the College Spotlight board in the high school. Every week we focus on a different university from the top schools around the world and our volunteer parents have always done a great job. We’re looking for a parent to continue this much-appreciated job. See Cathy Curtis if you are interested.
Freshmen – Grade to date checks with counselors are coming up. Do you check with your son or daughter to see how classes are going? It’s a good discussion point as long as you focus as much on the positive as on the “needs improvement” category!
Sophomores: Sophomore Seminar took place February 27-28. Students take the information that they have learned about themselves to generate an Individual Career Plan. It’s great information for thinking about future courses of study. Choosing classes for grades 11 and 12 will be coming up soon.
Juniors: Junior conferences are in full swing. Have you made an appointment to see your son’s/daughter’s counselor yet? Don’t delay!
Seniors: If you are a U.S. citizen applying to schools in the U.S. you may be eligible for loans, grants, work study, or any combination of the three. You need to file a FAFSA with the colleges in the U.S. that you have applied to. Go to https://www.fafsa.ed.gov/ – it’s a free application and might be well worth your time. Most schools start assigning financial aid in March so time is of the essence. If you haven’t done your 2012 taxes yet, estimates based on 2011 are accepted.
Seniors applying to universities in Japan, Korea, Australia, South Africa etc. with late deadlines, PLEASE be aware of those deadlines. They can vary from university to university!! See your counselor if you have any questions.
As you receive your offers for universities, remember that when you make a deposit for a university, you are committing to that university for a year. You may not deposit at more than one university. You have to make up your mind! Remember that, because universities that learn that their accepted students have “double-deposited” will sometimes remove their offer.

HS Graduation Announcements
Kevin Sypolt
ksypolt@gmail.com
Hard to believe, but our High School seniors will graduate in just over 3 months. Graduation is on Friday, June 7th, so mark your calendars. In preparation, the Graduation Committee will be taking orders for formal graduation announcements and invitations. These can be sent to your friends and relatives. Orders for the announcements will be taken each Thursday and Friday in the HS cafeteria from 10:15 – 11:15AM, starting March 7th. No orders will be accepted after April 1st. The printer should have the graduation announcements back to parents by early May so there will be time to mail them to overseas guests. Don’t wait. Order yours right away so you are not disappointed.
ISB World Cup
Justin Wah
justinw@isb.ac.th
The ISB 2013 World Cup will be starting on April 29th. It’s a long way off but we are trying to get prepared early.
There will be some small changes from the World Cups past, so please take these into account when creating your team.
- This year ALL teams will be required to have a minimum of one Female player on the field at ALL times.
- We will also be playing the games across the fields, rather than lengthwise.
- Due to the number of shirts there will be a Minimum of 9 players and a Maximum of 14 players per team (All games are 7 a side).
- Games will be 15 minute halves with a 5 minute half time. Kick off times will be 2:25, 3:00, 335, 4:15
- Players may choose to play on two teams, however, this is discouraged. If you choose to play on two teams, players must designate which is their first choice team. If both teams are drawn against each other, the player playing for both teams, will play for their designated first choice team.
- It will be a first come first serve basis for Country Team Assignments. In order to secure the Country of your choice it will be necessary to complete an on-line team roster, and then make payment for shirts. Go to https://tinyurl.com/isbworldcup to complete your team roster. Each shirt will cost 200 Baht, after on-line roster is complete bring your payment to Mr. Wah at the CAO on any Monday or Thursday.
- You may add players to your roster at a later date (remember max 14 players).
- All Schedules will be posted at the PE offices

Cafeteria News…Did You Know…?
Michelle Ihrig
cafeteria@isb.ac.th
That over 80% of the chicken served and consumed across campus is Antibiotic Free. Why is this important for you? Because long term exposure to antibiotics, whether taken directly or through another source, actually weaken our immune systems by taking over our bodies natural ability to fight infection and bacteria, thus leaving us much more prone to illness. Furthermore, our poultry is 100% certified Halal. ‘In Arabic, the word halal means permitted or lawful. Halal foods are foods that are allowed under Islamic dietary guidelines. Muslims are taught through the Qu’ran that all animals should be treated with respect and well cared for. ‘ Muslims believe Halal to be one of the most humane methods of animal preparation. Here’s to chicken. Enjoy.
