Message from the Principal
Philip Bradley
philipb@isb.ac.th
I took the opportunity to visit one of our local GCW courses this morning. This was a service project involving 33 students, 3 teachers, boundless amounts of energy and plenty of paint. They were working in a government school for students with both physical and mental impairments, redecorating classrooms and corridors. Coming at the end of the week it was wonderful to see the fruits of all the work and the positive impact this will have on the lives of others and our own ISB students. Wherever your son/daughter went on GCW I have no doubt this is a story you will hear too. Some of our out of Bangkok trips have started arriving back and this will continue over the weekend. Monday is Maka Bucha day (a holiday) and school starts again on Tuesday.
Monday, Feb 25, no school
Dennis Harter
dennish@isb.ac.th
Please remember that Monday is Maka Bucha Day and there will be no school. Students should use that time to rest, catch up on school work, and share with you their stories from GCW!
Tuesday, Feb 26, is an odd day
Dennis Harter
dennish@isb.ac.th
Please remind your children that Tuesday, back at school, will be Day 3. An even day was lost during GCW as Middle School continued to have classes. This day will be recovered later in March (more information on this to come).
Global Citizenship Week winds down
Dennis Harter
dennish@isb.ac.th
After all the planning, booking, and anticipation, GCW finally came and our students are engaged in wonderful learning around the globe. In addition to 11 courses here in Bangkok – ranging from service, to exploration, to career internships – we also sent students to 14 sites throughout Thailand, and 13 countries around the world. Amazing experiences for all, focused on global issues and service learning.
Students come home in the next few days. They return with memories and new perspectives. We like to think that we bring our students back from GCW changed, but unharmed. I know that you will be happy to see your children return from their GCW experiences and I hope they share with you all the amazing experiences they had.
Program of Studies 2013/14
Phil Rogers
philr@isb.ac.th
Towards the end of next week the Program of Studies for the 2013/14 academic year will be available as an e-book on our school website. This will give students and parents the opportunity to talk to counselors about their plans for course registrations for next year. The on-line registration process will open on Wednesday 20th March and close on Monday 25th March so now is a good time to consider any adjustments to your four year plan and specifically what courses you will study next year. ISB creates the HS schedule based on student course selection and therefore it is important that all students register during the on-line window. We also ask that all students who are leaving register to ensure we have the full range of choices for incoming students and you are thinking about what courses to take at your new school. More information in next week’s eNews.

May 2nd is the start of the IB and AP examinations at ISB and students should have a structured revision schedule leading up to these important exams. To view a copy of the IB examination schedule please visit the High School page of the school’s website or click on this link. This year we have in excess of 200 students in grades 11 & 12 sitting IB examinations and a number sitting AP examinations. More information will be provided to students over the coming month regarding these exams.
Third Season Underway!
Andy Vaughan
andyv@isb.ac.th
Third Season is under way with Junior Varsity and Varsity Teams selected for third season and we welcome the new addition to third season sports, which is Varsity Golf. Golf has always run as a club in the High School and has taken part in an IASAS exchange. We are fortunate to have Mr. Kevin Callahan and Mr. Monte Major working with our boys and girls teams as they prepare for their first ever full IASAS Golf tournament and look forward to seeing how they do this season.
Our Badminton and Track and Field teams will be travelling to Singapore and Jakarta in a few weeks time for their exchange while we host a softball exchange here in Bangkok. Any parents who are interested in supporting us with housing for this event are asked to email the Harold Albert (hmalbrt@isb.ac.th) who will be coordinating the housing for this exchange. We also have a number of BISAC invitational tournaments coming up for our third season sports and hope these are great learning experiences for our teams.
In the meanwhile, if you have a third season athlete who is returning from GCW, please check that they have registered online (https://inside.isb.ac.th/athletics/hsregister/) and completed their Pre-participation Physical Examination (PPE). Athletes who have not complete these this coming week will not be able to practice.
We look forward to a great season ahead!

Cafeteria News…Did You Know…?
Michelle Ihrig
cafeteria@isb.ac.th
That over 80% of the chicken served and consumed across campus is Antibiotic Free. Why is this important for you? Because long term exposure to antibiotics, whether taken directly or through another source, actually weaken our immune systems by taking over our bodies natural ability to fight infection and bacteria, thus leaving us much more prone to illness. Furthermore, our poultry is 100% certified Halal. ‘In Arabic, the word halal means permitted or lawful. Halal foods are foods that are allowed under Islamic dietary guidelines. Muslims are taught through the Qu’ran that all animals should be treated with respect and well cared for. ‘ Muslims believe Halal to be one of the most humane methods of animal preparation. Here’s to chicken. Enjoy.
