GCW is here!

As your children head out for Global Citizenship Week in the coming days, please know that our sponsors will do their best to look after them, ensure their safety, and provide a fun learning environment.  Part of that  learning centers around the students taking on some independence and responsibility away from home, yet in a safe situation.  For this reason, we ask that you let them go a little this week.  I will be sending out updates as I get them from the various sites.  In cases of emergency, please contact me (at any hour) and I will reach the group and put you in contact with your child.  They are off to wonderful experiences and will return with stories, memories, and a new outlook on friends, themselves, and the world.

Counseling New Letter…
Kevin Callahan
kevinc@isb.ac.th

The counseling staff would like to congratulate our own Debbie McDowell for receiving the “Excellence in Counseling” award from the University of Miami.  With over 27,000 students applying to the University last year, there are many, many counselors in the running for this award!!  Congratulations Debbie!!!!

All: The ISB counselors are facilitating a forum for parents about online safety for children, making smart technology choices, and owning one’s digital footprint.  After a general session, we will break out by division to focus on age-specific issues.  Space is limited to 20 High School parents.  The forum takes place on February 14th from 8:00-9:30 am.   Contact the Curriculum Office to register.  Don’t miss it!

The Counseling department is looking for a volunteer parent to be in charge of the College Spotlight board in the high school.  Every week we focus on a different university from the top schools around the world and our volunteer parents have always done a great job.  We’re looking for a parent to continue that this much-appreciated job!  See Cathy Curtis if you are interested.

Freshmen and Sophomores:  Have you talked with your parents about your classes for next year?  What are your strengths and weaknesses?  What do you like best?  What are requirements for graduation?  What are university requirements?  Start thinking about this, and if you have questions, be sure and ask your counselor.  He/she is happy to talk with you!

Juniors:  Junior Seminar III was January 28, 29.  Juniors should have turned in the Junior Packet (Junior Profile, Resume, Self Recommendation etc.)  This packet needs to be completed and turned in before a Junior Conference can be arranged.  Congratulations to the vast majority of Juniors for doing a great job on the packet and we look forward to meeting with you and your parents in the Junior conference in the coming weeks!

Seniors: You may receive notice from your University about an updated transcript.  Mid-Year reports (including Transcript) went out to all universities between January 25 and January 29.

As University decisions come in, students should notify their counselor.  This is important information for future students!

Seniors applying to universities in Japan, Korea, Australia, South Africa etc. with late deadlines, PLEASE be aware of those deadlines.  They can vary from university to university!! See your counselor if you have any questions.

Cafeteria News…Did You Know…?
Michelle Ihrig
cafeteria@isb.ac.th

That the best way to keep our bodies energized and hydrated in this hot weather is not through sports energy drinks or mineral powders!  These are full of artificial colorings, flavorings, high in sugar and all sorts of other things no one can understand.  Rather- take a look at a fruit which is indigenous to Thailand and is a drink at the same – the Coconut.  Coconut water and flesh is full of potassium, calcium, chloride and natural salts, so that it becomes nature’s most perfect electrolyte and energy drink.  Moreover, it is Antiviral, Antibacterial, Anti-inflammatory and an Antioxidant, hence a total immune booster.  We are proud to announce our new Smoothie of the Month available at the Grind: Coco Loco.  What’s inside?  Simple: Fresh Coconut, Coconut Water and a pinch of sugar.  In this climate, one could consider it to be the ‘perfect smoothie’, not to mention it is simply delicious.  Enjoy.
